AvX, this is the link to the archived thread if you want to move it to In Memoriam & delete this post (or merge it if other people respond before you get around to it?). If you're happy with what I've done & don't want to move/merge the threads, then you could delete this paragraph. Thanks in advance.

It's been ten years since Nancy Drew passed away.
I have added her to my Instagram Urbex Tribute page >here<

Here is a reproduction of the archived thread that Reduxzero started 10 years ago. >original thread<

Just to let everyone know, UER member Nancy Drew (aka, Christina A.) passed away last week. I thought I should announce this because several of the AB/BC forum members knew her.

Personally, Nancy Drew was a huge part of my exploring life. We took many road trips together, explored kilometers of storm drains, and snuck around buildings on frozen, wintry nights. For a good many years, she was someone who made the days more exciting, the nights more fun.

We even published an exploring zine together. Some of the old-timers might remember 5100 magazine; well, Nancy Drew was my co-conspirator and endless source of encouragement. That's her on the cover of issue #4, from 2006.

Last Tuesday, she apparently bumped her head in the evening, went to bed, and never work up. It seems an unbelievable, quiet end to the life she's had; a life that for years was filled by risks associated with drains, collapsed mines, rotten abandonments, and rooftops.

She remainder my good friend until the unexpected end. She had summer plans, road trips and projects in the works. She was interested in life, walking the urban landscape, and was always good to hang out and talk to. She leaves behind many who loved her and will remember her always.

I miss you already Nancy Drew, and will cherish the time we shared.

This short obituary is but a tiny piece of the story, and a bit rushed, but honestly I'm having a hard time with her passing- it still doesn't seem real. If you have photos of memories you'd care to share, please do so.

North Vancouver Ship Yards. June 2006.

Rafting Zardox in Calgary. August 2005.

Still Creek. June 2006.

I was really shocked to hear about Nancy Drew. It's sad to hear about someone so young passing away.

I had a great time exploring with you and Nancy several years ago when you guys came through Saskatchewan.

RIP Nancy

She was a really sweet person, I can hardly believe she's gone - you just don't expect a person in the prime of life to pass away... She was great to explore with, and an honestly great human being that I respected.

RIP Chris.

Sad. Something as simple as a bump on the head. A world class person, and explorer. Kind, gentle. RIP Chris.

A life filled with adventure is a life that has been well spent, though this is a most untimely end. RIP

The only pic I have of Nancy - 5100 drain. (photo link broken)
Fond memories of exploring with Nancy in Edmonton - dumpster diving and hitting the drains. RIP.

I'm beside myself with grief, I crossed paths with Christina, pretty often, she always had that special smile whenever I saw her. She will be missed.

Always sad when someone dies so young and so unexpectedly. I didn't know her, but obviously she had a profound impact on a lot of people.
Condolences to her friends & family.

I remember that night, rafting in Zardox.

It was during Globalfest, the international fireworks festival. We had this bright idea to watch the fireworks from the partially submerged mouth of the 3000x3000 outfall.

There were Six of us on five cheapo inflatable rafts. We dropped in 30 blocks upstream and walked until the water got knee deep. We blew up the rafts and floated the remaining distance, hiding in the shadow of the outfall and waiting for the show to start.

We had the best seats in the house.

Walk away.
