Hello everyone, I wasn’t sure what category to put this thread into since Hawaii is part of the United States, but not in the region of North America, so I put it here. Anyway, i’m in Maui for a bit over the week and I wanted to do some urbex. Does anyone know any spots? Thank you in advance.

Can concur, tried it once without any success. Since land is at a premium (being a highly desirable tropical island destination) things don't tend to stay abandoned for long. There's a few interesting spots on each of the islands, but car rentals are expensive and getting between the islands even more so.
Plus then there's the cultural aspect. Now, this is all second hand from another explorer who tried to explore more seriously than I did, but I've been told that urbex is seen as incredibly disrespectful there, especially as a tourist. Like all colonized places, trespassing as an outsider is a very touchy subject- and that's even before you take into account the sheer impatience with culturally insensitive tourists the locals have developed over the years.

Maui doesn’t have a whole lot obviously, but it does have a few things. I was in Maui for about a week recently and did find some cool stuff. Check out the old Maui high school. There are also some old sugar cane trains around if you look. Those were on the south western part of the island I believe? Part of Jurassic Park was also filmed on Maui too. Google is your friend.
Or you can fly over to Oahu and do the stairway to heaven. Everything is more expensive in Hawaii though because it has to basically all be transported in. If you’re going there to just explore, it definitely isn’t the spot for it, but there are a few things to check out. Good luck!

I recall Kauai also having some very cool sites, although that was almost 13 years ago.

Oh yeah I wasn’t planning on going to very cultural/sacred places or nature reserves, but there is the Old Maui High School which is now a landmark of sorts and is legal to go visit and take photos of so I was looking for mostly stuff like that yknow. I promise I don’t wanna be a culturally insensitive asshole lol

There's just old, somewhat boring military left-behinds along the middle highway stretch... I did go to them when I was there, I wouldn't say those are worth it
There is another spot - but it is on a construction company's property
What I would suggest is going to explore a few of the caves that are around on the island that are publicly accessible, as well as just seeing a lot of the natural area.
There's a gorgeous area that a Hawaiian family has graciously allowed people to visit down in Honolua Bay (also a great snorkel spot)
Also the family's lemonade has been the absolute best I have ever had, def get some as also a way to say thank you to them to allow to walk through such a gorgeous forest. Stay on the trail, and there is a section where they do not want pictures to be taken as it is a burial ground (noted with signs)

There's some great sites on Maui!
* The old church near the abandoned sugar mill at Puunene.
* The old mill itself is a great industrial archaeological site, but looks pretty dangerous.
* Multiple abandoned munitions bunkers from Puunene Naval Air Station, you can see these from the highway to Kihei.
* Also the old Puunene NAS power bunker on the other side of the highway. This is a similar design to power bunkers at Pearl Harbor and elsewhere in Hawaii.
If you drive back into the industrial park behind the Puunene runway, you can find the old base swimming pool in the kiawe, easy enough to spot on google maps as well. Pretty cool!
