No. The one time and place I don't have headphones in, actually.

The closest I have been music when exploring is really bad singing in a drain with a friend as we move along, if that noise can even be considered as music.

I generally don't, and I don't listen to music when I'm driving. But I have songs in my head, and when I am able to listen to music without risk while exploring, I do.

When I was trudging through a demolition zone about 10 years ago to reach some towers that were about to be demolished, for some reason I took consolation in this song, and I always have it on me now:

During a trip up a subway tunnel more recently, I was walking back and realising there was nobody to hear, so I put on some music. I was surprised how many songs about subways, trains, etc. I had in my collection.

Joe Bataan - Subway Joe

Viktor Tsoi - Elektrichka (this might not be my favourite version)

The Equals - Police on My Back

I've also known a lot of local Korean bands that have created music out of eviction fights, or bred in them, including Yamagata Tweakster, Bamseom Pirates, and VideoRose

Also have you ever heard of the UE Kingz?

It depends where I am. I almost always have headphones on and sometimes I forget to take them off. I'm usually listening to podcasts when I'm not driving though, and only in one ear. Music is way too involved for me to split my attention.

i usually listen to music on my drive up to a location since it's normally a good hour or two, but never while i'm there. you want to be able to hear everything but not be able to be heard by anyone else

Depend on where but 99% of place i personnally explore would be a really bad idea because you want to hear for any sounds.

Wide open trashed spots with no security or nobody looking after the place, yeah probably, but not to the point if police pass by they can ear you.

I haven't done this yet but I want to some time. Whenever I explore storm drains I would like to listen to scary ambient music out loud, so it has that scary effect as I climb high ladders in manhole shafts and walking in the dark big tunnels like I'm in a scary movie. Has anyone ever listened to scary ambient music while exploring something (mostly underground stuff to be exact)?

I made a "Tunnel Tracks" playlist a long time ago that my explorer buddies and I have come to love. It's an odd mix of some classic rock and weird trance-y stuff. We'd throw it on low volume and cruise through the drains, tunnels, etc.

When the classic rock came on, it set a quick pace for us. When the trance-y stuff played, we'd turn our lights off and enjoy the darkness. Music really sets the mood for me and I bring it everywhere.

I listen to music on speakerphone while exploring drains, but not really anywhere else. Drains are nice because nobody can hear you underground and walking through several miles of RCP tunnel can get monotonous. But everywhere else, you want your wits about you.

That's very good to know. Most of what I explore is underground anyway, so that works out nicely (LOL).

Carried an old transistor radio in my bag around 2009-10 at low-risk Gary spots, but it was more distracting than anything.

Only if I detect other people exploring the same place.

Then I play this into the HVAC ducts and/or elevator shafts.

I don't listen to music outside of my car or when working. When I'm outside exploring or even hiking I let myself become immersed in all the noise around me. It helps me know what's actually happening without distraction. You don't want to step on a floor and not hear it crack. You want to know someone happens to be outside on an atv all the sudden. To each their own it really depends where you are and the dangers you may encounter.

That actually sounds really cool. Would you be comfortable sharing the playlist? I'd love to hear it.

Here ya go! I looked through it again this morning before I PM'd it to Kabes. It's a little more diverse than I remember. I haven't listened to this playlist much sober, so here's my suggestion: Take a couple hits. Turn this on. Start cruising tunnels.
