A Year in Review: 2022
< on 1/20/2023 5:29 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
2022 was a year with many big life changes for me, and a few really close calls. As such, I explored significantly less than prior years, and I dove more into other hobbies, like hiking.

This is of course, not necessarily a complete list of places I've visited the past year, as some things are best left off the internet.

Enough chatter, let's just get to the photos:

1. Started the year off right by getting to this fire-damaged house just a few days before the Instagram crowd started running through it:

2.

3. Managed to get into some old munitions bunker:

4.

5. Finding new buildings on the fourth trip to a spot was pretty cool.

6. The Claw™

7. A very crumbly 19th century house in terrible lighting

8. Stumbled across this in the woods. It's completely empty, and I have no idea what it could've been used for.

9. These cabins ended up being one of my favorite images of the year:

10. House and car presumably both abandoned since 1979

11. House with meticulously labeled artifacts from the surrounding area

12. Hospital exterior (more photogenic than the interior)

13. A cabin found while hiking in the Appalachian Mountains

14. Mountainside tragedy

15. Midwest oil drilling

16. I've been really enjoying rural small towns

17. Driving through the flyover states

18.

19.

20. Heading further west

21.

22.

23. A rare self-portrait; tiny 19th century drain

24. This property had over a dozen classics scattered in the woods:

25.

26. Revolutionary war wallpaper, hoarder house

27. Abandoned fire station, built 1897. The inside was gutted.

28. This church was so rural I struggled to find any information about it. Best I could find, it's been abandoned for 50+ years.

29. A rainy day explore

30. Tucked away in the sketchiest building I've ever gone in. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing is collapsed now.

31. A classic:

32.

33.

34. One of the better sunsets. Also the dudes racing riding lawn mowers here were super chill.

35. Re-visit. This time someone had kicked in the door so I was able to head inside.

36.

37. Ruins of a mill.

38. Funny enough, this was the most secure place I went all year. Covered in cameras and the local police wouldn't stop following me around the outside. Settled for exteriors.

39. Got permission for this one, the owner is extremely nice. I'd recommend chatting with him over sneaking in.

40.

41. Decided to finally check this out. Ran into one explorer with a huge ego, and one really chill explorer. That's this hobby in a nutshell I suppose.

42. An imperfect lookup

43. Partially-abandoned quarry.

44. Old hoisting mechanisms for the quarry.

45. Diesel engine powering the old hoists.

46. YMCA exterior

47. Not really abandoned, but no longer a theater and a cool enough scene to include here.

48.

That's all for now. Thanks for checking it out!

What a great year. I really like that it's different that the usual URBEX.

Rural and Americana shots for the win. Well done.

Is that a crashed plane in the "mountainside tragedy" picture? That's a crazy thing to stumble upon.

The light is great in your pictures!

It feels very vintage-y, little bit washed.

Cool stuff!

It is, it's one of the more intact ones I've found so far.

Awesome, I knew it was a Comet from the badging, that's good to know!

Thanks, I do use vintage lenses off film cameras from the 1960s, that could be a contributing factor

Love how creamy every single one of these is. That's the power of film I guess. Had to hold myself back from licking the monitor

The picture of the bust/statue in #2 is just so striking for me for some reason. I can't stop looking. I also really love your lighting and the brightness of your photos while still maintaining definition and contrast.
