Obese Year In Review
< on 1/14/2023 6:02 AM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
My first real UER post in almost 2 years! Saw Interstitials YIR and had to get my clout too. Hope you all are well. As usual, I haven't been exploring much. BUT, still managed to scrape together like 30 places this year. Nearly all of them were power plants, so enjoy a fairly heavily curated and vague showcase of my year while I try not to incriminate myself too horribly.

I've been very happy with my photography developing this year, and also started shooting film, although just for normal photography. Flickr is linked if interested.

Anyway, please enjoy some of my favorite close up pictures of turbines

*having just made this, I realize it looks like I had a busy year. Photographically I certainly did, and that's all that matters.

1. Abandoned Sloppy Dawgs!

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

8. A steel mill! After having a laughable failure at a plant, but soo close to success, we hit this steel mill on the way home only for it to be swarming with workers on the entry, and having a drone chase us out on the exit.

9.

10.

11.

12. After failing at one of the more stupid plants I've ever tried in broad daylight on a weekday, we settled on this nice former sign-making facility.

13.

14.

15.

16. The plant that would've powered my house, demolished some time this year.

17.

18.

19.

20. Back again here. This was the only place I could explore for most of the year

21.

22.

23.

24.

25. Got my first roll of film scanned!

26. Obviously the only portrait I know how to take

27.

28.

29.

30.

31.

32. One of my favorite pictures ever

33.

34. I apparently visited this place to take the same shots on every one of my cameras with how deprived I was of exploring

35.

36. A scene from the previously mentioned worst idea ever

37.

38. If you weren't sick of this shot yet. Not sure why these scans are all out of order, very annoying

39. Below this was a really cool turbine hall that I can't show y'all

40.

41.

42.

43.

44. Half of these shots, like this, I got on film as well but I'm just including the digital ones since they come up first on my flickr and they're also exposed right

45.

46.

47.

48. 2 workers drove right past us as we were walking in here and didn't stop for some reason so we hid inside anyway. By sheer luck they happen to be looking for the bolt storage shelves, exactly where we were hiding, and they found us again. They didn't care either time luckily and we scared the daylight out of them

49.

50.

51. Another film roll! Now equipped with a wide angle lens

52.

53.

54.

55.

56. This time the film version came up before the digital

69.

58.

59.

60. Another film version first. I think this was the point when I got too busy to edit pictures and remained so for like 6 months, leaving me A LOT of pictures to get through

61.
=

62. This hospital and that other plant are basically the only places I went to this year

63.

64. As disgusting as superia normally looks, the shots from here turned out beautifully. Luckily I was only shooting film for most of these visits

65.

66. I think taking this picture changed my whole perspective on exposure for the rest of the year

67.

68. I also remembered here that I bought this fancy expensive lens with f2.8 that I had only ever shot stopped down until then.

69.

70.

71.

72.

73. Albeit impossible, I really liked shooting these ladles.

74.

75.

76.

77.

78.

79. Little known fact, it's always cooler to put the big interesting thing mostly out of frame so you van get a better look at the other stuff

80.

81.

82. Sad turbine awaiting its demise

83.

84. There were like 20 of these but the tight shot looks better

85. Caught this boiler sleeping naked

86.

87. Almost the full hall because I'm feeling nice

88.

89.

90.

91.

92.

93.

94. Some of the most amazing light I've seen in here, did my best to try and capture the feeling

95. From here on will be some little intermissions with film shots cuz I like all my normal pictures way more than exploring pictures. This was Bonneville

96. The only other exploring shot on this roll probably. Colorado gold mine

97. Another one of my all time favs

98. Another cuz I love every shot on this roll

99. In north Texas I think

100. Tripping on ludicrous amounts of shrooms in my friends trap house

101. Glad this is somewhat exploring related cuz again I love every shot from these rolls way too much

102.

103.

104.

105. This one will make a reappearance on digital cuz superia is poo

106.

107.

108.

109. Random shot I love from San Fransisco. At this point I had 2 film cams now to have different stocks loaded and ready. Definitely a life saver

110. I have now realized I have my flickr set to upload date while making this which is why all the film stuff is coming first before I edited the digital pictures. But now I also realize if I set to photo date they'll all be plants first since I have them set to just 2022. Anyway, back to pictures

111.

112.

113.

114.

115. Very funny story here with photo proof that I'll never be able to share

116. Coronado chillin

117.

118.

119.

120.

121.

122.

123. Explored these sheep things super hard and the moose here

124.

125.

126.

127. Really fighting the urge to include all the sick trees in BC that come up after this on my flickr, so if you like cool trees go look yourself

128.

129.

130.

131.

132.

133.

134.

135. The long-awaited digital version of this

136.

137.

138. that beautiful 2.8

139.

140.

141. Back to the colorado mine, on digital. The pictures jumping around makes it seem like I did way more than I did

142.

143.

144.

145.

146.

147.

148.

149.

150. Slept in a place for the first time here. Was a brutal experience and probably took a few years off of my lungs because of a completely avoidable sleeping spot

151.

152.

153.

154.

155.

156.

157.

158.

159.

160.

161.

162.

163. This shot made me realize I can look for cameras on the way in AND get pictures at the same time. It also taught me how dramatically different you can make a picture if you took it well

164.

165. I climbed one of those towers a while ago so this counts. Also I can see these from my house so that's cool

166. Stupid stupid place. Amazing but so dumb and stupid and yet again I have to venture back to try and get at least one picture

167.

168. One of my fav plants for sure

169.

170.

171.

172.

173.

174. This place was abandoned

175. This counts cuz trains or something. Squamish BC

176. These were crazy vibrant fall colors but apparently the lab thought otherwise and I'm too lazy to fix

177. Another little intermission cuz my friends are sick. Outside Bellingham WA

178.

179.

180.

181.

182.

183.

184.

185.

186.

187.

188.

189.

190.

191.

192.

193.

194.

195.

196. Somehow this roll had stuff from summer?

197.

198.

199.

Apologies for the absurdly long thread, hope you enjoyed.

The best compilation of industrial stuff I've seen a long, long time. Some of the semi-active stuff is nuts.

Also, you're a braver man than I to commit to film like that

It's incredibly badass how many powerplants you got into in a single year. Amazing shots, thanks for sharing!
