Urbex can go wrong if not taken with the right precautions. What are some of the dumbest ways you can die while exploring?

first time urbexing there was a hole on the 2nd floor of a school with definitely over 10 ft ceilings. Dropped right into the basement so was a pretty hefty drop. Just a line across the floor probably where a wall would be. Good learning experience, use my head.

On my first exploration of a building, I decided to climb a ladder. When I was about 25 feet up on it, I got hit with a dizzy spell. Falling would have been a rather stupid way to die.

I had a friend slip off of some scaffolding in this abandoned shack. He probably came like 6 inches from slicing his arm open on some metal scraps hanging off of the side. We would have had to hike back down like a mile before we could get any service. Needless to say he didn't really wanna do any urbex with me again lol.

My friend almost died because he didn't listen to my instructions to step on the metal supports of a washroom roof to get to a cool spot in the abandoned building he fell through the washroom's drywall roof into the darkness and landed on the concrete floor below next to an old mattress almost taking me with him.

I nearly died today at work stepping backwards off a truck forgetting the tail lift was all the way on the floor, that woke me up a little bit.

One of my first times urbexing I was climbing on a roof, when I went to climb down the brick I was holding fell with me straight onto my back. Luckily I was wearing a backpack to cushion the fall and it was only about a 6 foot drop

Stepped through a wooden stairway at an army base. The plank just broke. But luckily by chance I had an arm on both the upper and lower stair, and didn't fall through.

A week later--same base, different building- I broke my elbow trying to protect my camera,(arms curled up and cradling camera) I was standing on a chair to take a picture and the leg gave out. Didn't know it was broken, I just thought it was dislocated.

In Arizona, there used to be a HUGE abandoned horse trotting park. It has since been demolished, but you can find it on the DB Map still though if you wanna look. But I remember back during my freshman year of high school, my buddies and I went to explore the trotting park as it was a popular spot to explore at my school. I remember I was leading the way and we were walking on about the highest level of the building. We were using flashlights and the lighting was really crappy, But I was walking forward and turned around for a second to say something to my friend. When I turned around I was about 2 steps from a hole that went straight down to the ground level, probably about 60 feet or so. my heard fkin sank so far if I hadn't turned around when I did I 100% would have fallen into the hole. The flooring was falling apart everywhere so it was not even smart to go up there in the first place but after a 5 minute freak-out and life evaluation we all went down and didn't explore the higher levels anymore lol.

OK last post reminded me of exploring an old mercury mine. I had a cheapo flashlight and did the same thing..friend was behind me and for no real reason we stop a second and chat over something. He shines his light ahead and I was about 2 feet from walking into a huge hole going straight down. It seemed like my flashlight was lighting things up but somehow it didn't reveal the drop.

My friend's flashlight revealed it just fine, but still wasn't strong enough for us to see how deep the shaft was so I'm guessing a good 20'

I thought this thread was about an old, Australian PSA.

There have been some explorations of various toxic and radioactive places in the past.

One that comes to mind was Li Tungsten. We went out for drinks after an explore and someone in the bar overheard our conversation. He walked over and said:

"Did you guys go poking around in Li Tungsten? If you did, you're going to fucking die. You have no idea what kind of radioactive hellhole you were in."

Then there was another place where someone in the group broke a bottle, stepped in the liquid spill and the bottom of their shoes partially dissolved.

That's in the LDB:

besides the obvious of falling through floors, falling off buildings or being murdered by property owners (or property occupiers)? i have been a little paranoid of booby-trap-like things.

i don't think i'll ever fall into punji stakes (large pit, pointy sticks, big ouchies) but i'm more concerned about coming across someone who's had their shit stolen 'for the last time' and decided to hang a hammer in front of a door? seeing used needles set up to cause intentional sticks for funsies, not much would surprise me.

you have just begun reading the sentence you just finished reading.

I've had two main near-death experiences while exploring. One was simply when I was underground in a subway system and I got locked behind a door; I would have died if it weren't for Korea's renowned underground cellphone reception.

The time that really haunts me is one time when I was on the roof of a small apartment building, two or three storeys tall, with an explorer I'd just met. We were on a somewhat narrow section of the roof, maybe a couple meters wide, with absolutely no railing along the edge, just a little concrete lip a couple centimeters tall. I went first, had a look, and then let her get ahead of me. She was wearing a large backpack, and at one point she spun around, doing so which could have killed me if the timing was one second different. We both realised the danger after it happened, but I didn't blame her and was too polite to tell her just how deadly that move could have been.

Here's an image that shows the fall I would have experienced:

Then there was the guy that passed out when he opened a trap door in an abandoned house.

I already replied to this a few days ago, but just yesterday had another encounter with a hole in the ground that tried to eat me. Was exploring a house in southern Arizona and there was a 7 foot hold in the backyard. I didn't see it and walked right up to it before realizing it was there. No one would of found me for a while too.
