2022 Year in Review
< on 12/10/2022 7:39 PM >

So that time of year has rolled around again where we recollect and reminisce over what madness occurred over the last twelve months.

I sort of had a year of two halves really, compared to previous times around. Most of my enjoyment this year came from a crazy three weeks Stateside with the likes of Essex, Pearson and Sheavy plus many others, after missing out on trips in 2020 and 2021 thanks to a certain virus that won't be named. When I returned home, and ever since, I've been under quite stressful financial circumstances (or lack of many finances!) so instead of doing many long distance trips back on home soil this year I found myself focussing on my own local-ish area more than I ever have before, and to be honest it really reaped some dividends and I found some absolute gems of local sites I never knew existed.

Out of the 76 locations I explored this year, 36 were in America, and 25 were within an hour of home, which if someone had said that to me a few years ago I'd never have believed. Of these, 18 were previously unknown sites that I managed to find through hours and days of dogged research and just a little bit of good fortune on a number of occasions. I also made it to the magical number of 1000 documented explores on my trip to the States, which is a seriously unbelievable milestone for me that I never thought I'd reach when I started exploring in mid 2009.

Some of these I am still aiming to make proper standalone threads for when the time allows or I can be bothered.

Here's to a decent 2023 for all.

Really excellent thread. I'm hoping to retrace some of you guy's steps through the American South here in a few weeks haha.

Maybe we'll be able to link in Detroit this year, if that happens again.

Hoping to be out in the Spring of next year again even if it bankrupts me!

That week I spent in Alabama was honestly one of the most memorable weeks of my life, definitely the most insane exploring week I've ever had, just non-stop awesomeness and some equally incredible food!

#44 is somewhere I have kept somewhat under wraps since the summer, it's another local spot to me that was briefly accessible back then, although the alarms there still haunt my dreams. Right now it's very very well sealed with multiple cameras and alarms covering it so it's time to shine may be soon ;)

Sheavy is the MAN!!

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

Really solid year considering you stayed so close to home for most of it. It was nice to be able to pick back up with our annual Detroit trip. Looking forward to your next visit!
