Hunters Point Shipyard Artists Open House

Got a chance to stop by the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists open houses this weekend and walk around some of the buildings. Of course, the real abandoned buildings are still closed off, but it was nice to see some art and walk around.

Closed off? Is there a fence around the old buildings now?

I've gone in during the open house. There were people walking around like it was something they did every day. Some even had dogs. Maybe they had studios there, but they were all over the closed side.

Visited the Shipyard a few weeks ago. The abandoned buildings were in great condition. Buildings across the way were very cool too.

Would be down to go again sometime soon. If any other members are interested, contact me and maybe we can set something up.

p.s. Beware the police compound on the SW corner of the point. Saw some activity in our time there, so cops are around at night. It's easily visible if you enter the shipyard and has lots of bright lights. Also viewable on google earth.

I really wish I had taken more escalator photos there. Maybe it was because I thought we'd go back the same way, but didn't.

this would be a cool place to test out my geiger counter if I can find a probe for it.

UPDATE: We went back recently and there were at least two pickup trucks that we think were security guards patrolling the base. One seemed to return to the entrance of the base both times we tried to enter, and we left and watched them from the hill. It seems like they slowly went in front of the base, and then entered the base and drove along the inside as well (where possible).

The hole in the front fence has been patched as well.
