As the title says, what would classify the differences between urban explorers and recreational trespassers?

i think urban explorers have a specific interest in abandoned buildings for whatever reason. i know some people that do it for the history or the architecture, and others that do it as a form of escapism. recreational trespassers are more people that do it just for the hell of it, or do it explicitly because its illegal and they enjoy breaking the law. its definitely not black and white though. everybody has their own reasons for doing what they do.

I think they're just different names for the same thing. Sometimes I prefer the latter because it takes itself less seriously, and sometimes I prefer the former because it sounds less criminal.

There's a difference?

I never even realised there was a difference.

All urban explorers are recreational trespassers, in that it's something we all do for fun and recreation time.

I don't really believe there is a difference. If you are trying to make a distinction between the youngster tik-tok livestreamin' thrill seekers, and us, I think the major distinction is how much caution, and respect we give to the places, the history, and the hobby as a whole. We care about the community, the history, and keeping all of those things safe and intact, as opposed to just caring about our friends and keeping our instagram followers up.

It's quite simple

Urban Explorers = Recreational Trespassers

Recreational Trespassers = Urban Explorers

for me its passion, urban exploration is having the passion for history of the buildings, walking around seriously inspecting everything. Then there are those who go in there so that they have a spot to party. I've found a firepit in a mall near me and it's just confusing, the chair in the wall, fire extinguisher through the window. There isn't really a difference, just etiquette and passion.
