The Cursed School

Close to my hometown was another smaller town, where the story was all too familiar. The city lived off factories, and staff were let go, when new machines were installed. People moved away, there were less and less children and several schools were shut down.

The school was a very beautiful old building built in two parts in the early 20th century. It had stood abandoned for years and was in a very bad shape. It wasn't too difficult to find a way in, but it was difficult to stay inside.

It was a beautiful sunny day, but first of all it was very cold. It had been like that for all summer, but despite the pictures looking warm and cozy, it was below +10 degrees Celsius.

On top of that there was something with the school. All walls were filled with very badly written texts in Finnish and English. They were curses, death threats, stuff like you usually find in abandoned places. But these were different. They featured very basic spelling errors, which are made by children aged six.

Then it started to sound like somebody was walking on the overgrown yard. We were standing in a corridor, where there were three large windows and we could see the entire yard. We all heard the steps, we saw nobody.

We decided to leave. In my 11 years of exploring that far this was the only place I had left midway because of a strange feeling. And it still remains the only one.

When publishing posts about this school, I received a message from another Finnish urban explorer. She had felt the same eeriness and heard the same steps.

But now let's look at the pictures:

6.

7.

The final one included some of the texts. That one didn't feature misspellings, though.

I’ve been spooked many times by footsteps and/or rustling outside. 99% of the time it’s a squirrel or deer. But, one time, it was a turkey.

Standing 4 feet away from a stairwell we JUST came down. A friend and I BOTH heard footsteps above us coming from the empty room where the stairs led to. There was nobody else there but us, no other entrance to that room and we had just came down from that room

No explanation....No body to go with foot steps...It did creep me out to be honest.

Damn. That would be spooky! What the OP described above sounded more like it was outside in the courtyard though, and could have been any number of things.

I definitely believe in ghosts, but I don’t always believe in ghost encounters. Definitely skeptical of the people who say they’ve measured ghostly presences. Feelings of unease, on the other hand, are sometimes undeniable.

Some places just leave you with a bad feeling, and it's not always the ones you'd expect. I've had weird things happen, but the creepiest explores were that way because of nothing but a feeling.

Nice pics, the cozy look of the place contrasts so much with the write-up.

I fully agree with this. I've had weird things happen too. But a pigeon scaring you in an abandoned slaughterhouse is nothing compared to the gut feeling you get that something just isn't right.

Yes. It was a perfect evening for exploring and the building had no dark corners where one couldn't see. It still puzzles me to this day, why we were so scared of everything.

I have actually returned to the location since, so more stories will follow, when I again have time to go through my photo archive.

I have always wondered how haunted places become cursed (if curses are even real at all). Because pretty much every location ever has had some tragedy or horrible thing happen in it, so what would make one place haunted and another one not?

I have no answer for you. Making up names for locations which still exist (and I can't reveal the real name) is pretty hard. This one became The cursed school, as somebody had written some shit about the black curse next to the death threats.
