Hey guys I've always wondered how does everyone manage parking when exploring. I'm always alone so sometimes I bail because it's a very sketchy neighborhood and since I can't get dropped off I'm scared that my car might get broken into or fucked with. Either that or the location is in an open field so if somebody spots my car they'll instantly know I'm inside. Do you guys have a plan for the parking before you arrive? If so, what tips would you give me?

Trawl Google Maps for nearby parking, something that isn't obviously right outside the location. A lot of this depends on where you're exploring. In cities and suburbs, public parking such as parking lots and curbside parking is ideal. If you're in rural areas a pull off or side road works well, though sometimes parking right outside and going for speed over stealth works better if it's something small like a farmhouse. Walking half a mile in a city or a mile in rural areas is a reasonable distance, though I've parked as far away as three miles for certain locations where stealth concerns didn't permit parking any closer. As for keeping people from breaking in to your car while you're gone, you don't really have to worry about that in rural and upper class suburban areas. In sketchier neighborhoods some easy tactics include keeping essential valuables (phone and wallet) on your person at all times. If you have anything of value (electronics, loose change, etc) in your car, keep it out of sight. I also know some explorers who use the "strategic McDonald's bag" trick in which they don't wash their car often and will scatter a few loose fast food bags around the back seat when going into sketchy areas. This makes you look a bit poorer than a pristine, shining paint job and spotless car does and provides less incentive to break in. Also, aim for public parking in busy areas- parking lots/busy streets, as the traffic and sheer number of witnesses make your car a less tempting target.
"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there. | |
I see! Thank you very much for your help.

While I do not have much experience so far, something I have found useful is to park car a good distance away and ride a bicycle to the site. I then am able to better hide a bike in the surrounding area.

That’s pretty genius, my car isn’t big enough for a bike but I could do it on a skateboard.

A skateboard might be better in some situations due to its smaller size and easier portability.

Definitely definitely +1 on using a skateboard or bike. Even walking is chill tbh. Usually I’d rather park a block away and walk/bike to it than park right near it and risk getting caught.
