Japan - Aokigahara - and surrounding.

Area is generally around Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan, nothing secretive. Many ways to access, it literally is a forest, the suicide forest.

No bodies were found this, or subsequent trips - but that usually happens late summer, wouldn't be the first time I found a body

To access, you will need a car, you can find a bus to some tourist sites, e.g. My Fuji 5 lakes, but the tour operators will notice you missing. You can rent a car easily in Japan if you have an IDP for about $20-25/day, no reservation needed usually.

The sign is kinda famous, even in Japan among those people that like supernatural or this sort of thing - this is urbex, but that's another fun circle I'd love to go on about sometime.

Hotel where you can book so you can do excurions, I didn't do this route but decided to camp, it was quite chilly in Feb, about 28F.

Bonus:

This is ICe Cave, it's a "tourist attraction" used for WW2 stockpiling, the JP Military was worried about bombs by the allies and kept many things there - now it's considered a "natural refrigerator." This was also a source for ice before mainstream ice/fridges were common. Even today in South East Asia (well, East Asia too for China, but not so much in Japan) Ice is still sold in blocks because not every home has a fridge.

Once I'm able to go out to Japan again, I was going to go around the area because even though it's got a bad reputation, it's a gorgeous place

I was somewhat in the area when I had gone to Fuji-Q amusement park, as well as two of the shrines at the base of Fuji-san

Are you living out in Japan? Or just visiting?

Oh, I think I have photos of Fuji-q, it's literally at Fuji-san eki (富士山駅)

I lived in Japan a loonngg time, and I'm going back in a bit.

It is a gorgous place and the drive there, from Tokyo was my first drive, I rented a car, had my girlfriend come with and we did everything, anything just because we were all excited about seeing it.

But we went in Winter, well end of winter before spring. We spoke to some older guys at a local Izakaya there and they say they ramp up looking for bodies when the snow finally melts because all the "kids" in Tokyo go out there for their little paranormal games and such too.

I was hesitant to post some photos of a town or two around it, but I'll do it now - I wasn't sure if this would actually be welcomed here.

In all seriousness, you need to be extremely careful leaving the main paths through Aokigahara.
Compasses do not work, GPS only vectors when you are moving, and you cannot walk a straight line.
The combination of these factors contribute to getting lost very fast.
Notably as the paths you walk undulate so much, and the sunlight falling is so uneven, conventional 'I've been here before' observations do not work.

We mistakenly not only left a path, but also one of the rescue strings that tie the trees together to allow easy exit.
After long and tedious efforts, we came across our own footprints in the snow...
