This was my favourite chance discovery here in the UK for a considerable time, as 1) I never expected to get into it and 2) I never expected it to be as good as it was. I had planned a work day trip to check out a closed shop owned by a very good friend of mine's family with a view to helping them clear it out, and I immediately noticed that almost opposite the shop was a large abandoned mid-century church building with a much older building attached to it. So of course, after finishing up the work we had to do, we wandered across the road to check it out. After a rather blatant fence hop I was pretty shocked to find it accessible, so after a fashion beckoned to my friend to come join.
The church replaced a much older church bombed out in the second world war, the nearby Victorian hall building suffered repairable damage and was kept in the new development during the late 1950s. Along with the church, there was a small gymnasium/auditorium constructed as an extension, with corridors joining all three buildings together - this, for me, gave it weird American vibes as the church/gymnasium/school combo is very common over there but quite rare to find all in one building here. It closed in around 2018 apparently due to subsidence damage, and has been sold for development which will demolish the 1950s church but keep the old hall. The old hall was sadly split into smaller rooms when it was converted into a pre-school and was filled with a lot of junk.
I didn't have my tripod with me on this occasion as I never expected to be exploring anything, but at least I had my camera and wide angle on me.
