Detroit; Cement

On the south edge of Detroit lays a cement plant, the facility was explored widely in the 2000's, before major demolition to the site in 2010's. I decide to have a peek at this historic building myself, as the main structure still stood.

The road that used to run parallel with the building was now a private road.

This required a drive down a sort of service road, this road ended at some railroads, after that it took about 8 minutes to walk to the cement plant. By the way it happened to be a really hot day.

View of the main warehouse from the now-fenced parallel road

Old steam pipes and a catwalk, I'm sure this road is still active. There are tread marks on the ground

The massive spiral staircase inside the silos.

This is where the cement was stored, most of it has hardened and tuned into concrete, which is pretty interesting. This room is probably four to five stories tall.

This bucket would pick up the granules and dump it down that chute into the mixing tanks, maybe?

I'm not sure what this room is for, but it looks like there is a filter or some smelting device. This side room has big ventilation on top.

A view into the huge mixing tank, most likely mixing different types of granules. Everything in every building was coated in a layer of dust.

A few stories above the tank-room. There were tons of staircases and ladders, they're all pretty sturdy despite being metal.

This might have been one of the coolest places to explore. Huge, with old machines, huge pipes, almost untouched by artists, while Detroit is covered in graffiti.

This is so cool. Good job.

I'm a supporter of gay rights. & not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I've never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being. By the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant. - Paul Newman
