Whilst in the south I ticked off one of the rare bucket list locations in the great company of Sheavy and Pear. Fuelled by Waffle House and the desire to see one of the largest completely abandoned hospital campuses in the country, we had a great day. Eight hours after entering in the early morning light we emerged to a lovely sunny afternoon, and made tracks to the nearest delicious barbecue restaurant. This place is, by some considerable margin, my favourite abandoned hospital I've ever done. It has everything you could ever want in a hospital - masses of natural decay, loads of buildings filled with old equipment and enough of a security presence to keep the idiots from smashing it up. The last buildings closed in 2012 but some have been closed for decades and it shows in the state of the floors, a lot of the oldest structures have suffered bad collapses and one building in particular has some seriously sketchy floors made only of wood and plaster. The different stages the buildings closed in, as well as the total mix of differing architectural styles and construction makes for some very interesting differences in the condition they are now in. 1

It's totally worth it, I can't think of another facility like it in the States - you won't regret making the trip if you can spare a few days!

That building with all the stuff in it and the one with the circolectric beds had so many different rooms filled with interesting things it was easy to miss stuff - we spent so long waiting around in that one building I managed to have a real thorough root around!

nice work and that Guide is the Southern Jesus!!
Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah |
