There was an absolutely brutal post to r/combatfootage today. Seriously NSFL. Do not click unless you're comfortable with drone footage of tanks (and guys) getting blown to pieces.

i guess you deal with one problem at a time. Isn't there a saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"? i guess that's an axiom for this particular event in time.

definitely agree with you on this one, though.
A lot of the troubles in Eastern Europe can be traced to discontent regarding the outcome of WWII.
The Yugoslavian Wars of the 1990s were largely Serbia against Croatia and Bosnia. Croatia and Bosnia went with Germany in WWII and Serbia went with Russia. Yugoslavia itself was concocted after WWI out of territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and further solidified after WWII. None of this sat well amongst Catholic Croatians, Muslim Bosnians and Orthodox Serbs. The sides broke out according to the WWII allegiances. In the 1990s, the US and NATO decided to side with the people that were pro-Nazi in WWII only because they were anti-Moscow.
Now we come to Ukraine in WWII.
Here comes the Blitzkrieg that chases the Bolsheviks out of Ukraine. YAY! Ukraine is saved by Germany. Of course that was only temporary. The Bolsheviks were back with a vengeance a few year later and they didn't have a high opinion of the people in Ukraine that were playing ball with Nazi Germany.
So in the eyes of the gung-ho 20-somethings in Ukrainian Army, the Nazis are viewed as people that saved Ukraine from Moscow while overlooking some other uncomfortable truths about the Nazis.

you didn't get the utter carnage from footage from Iraq or Afghanistan as you are with this..
The bulk of the war in both was 15-20 years ago. Technology has changed. Back then, we had flip-phones. Mobile internet and social media didn't really exist in the form that it does now.
What was available then was mostly low-res pics and scratchy video from Al Arabiyah and none of it was widely distributed,
If I look around, I'm sure I can find NSFL pics from the GWOT.
Good points, but I think the biggest coverage differentiator is simply geographical location.
Iraq and Afghanistan were (and still are), in the words of The Great Liar (speaking plausibly for once), "shit-hole countries", with limited telecom infrastructure. The NSFW pics and video of those wars were largely leaked by American soldiers, using their limited home-bound bandwidth (and probably against orders to boot).
In Ukraine the networks are more on par with the West. Every civilian and his uncle can upload the daily travesties to Facebook and Youtube and whatnot with a couple of taps. At least they can until Russian cunts blow up their neighbourhood cell tower. Hence, the "in your face" aspect of this particular conflict.
It makes me sick to my stomach, what's going on over there.
Edit: Words; I suck at them.
