It's not very often a site like this, of this scale, pops up fairly local to me as my general area is very sparse when it comes to exploring. This huge leisure complex closed in 2020 due to it relocating to a nearby brand new modern facility - this original complex was opened in the mid-1970s and it was becoming very tired and outdated. It's very much become one of the current tourbus merry-go-round spots in the UK but with it being so local to me it would have been silly of me to not go and have a look for myself.

The leisure centre boasted numerous sports and leisure facilities including a 25m length pool, a leisure/kids pool, 135-station gym, eight courts for various sports including squash and indoor tennis, fitness/dance studios, a sauna, conference and party space, indoor soft play area and even an escape room setup. It appears it closed very quickly, with only the essential equipment being moved to the new site - I guess they decided to purchase and kit out the new location with all new equipment.

Prior to the explore I'd heard from a couple of people how there was a nosey neighbour in an adjacent property who liked to call the police to come and turf people out, and with the local police station being a mere 300m or so from the building it wasn't exactly difficult for them to do that. We got in nice and early just before sunrise to try and minimise the chance of being spotted, and had the run of the place at our leisure for a couple of hours, before leaving without any issues.

The local kids and idiots are making an awful big mess in here at an alarming rate, the scary thing is that the power is still connected throughout a lot of the building, in some areas with bare exposed wires hanging from ripped down ceiling panels and light fittings, coupled with how damp it is in a lot of the building it's an accident waiting to happen I fear.

Yeehaw! What a great set. I've seen a number of aquatic/swimming centers posted before, but I think the quality here is the best I've seen. All that tile and the size of the pool are incredible. As always, thank you for sharing.

Wow really nice.

That one waterslide tucked in the corner has got to be one of the saddest waterslide designs I've ever seen.

Your photos are really great of this facility. Awesome kids section~ i could definitely see this reused as a center for the Special Olympics. Its still in such nice shape and has alot to offer. Sad to see it just sitting there.
