We had a tip off on a sprawling steel factory with massive blast furnaces. Our intel was dated though, and most of it had been razed and what remained was crawling with demolition workers. Luckily, we identified an adjacent petroleum refinery. After a few hours inside we realized that it was not fully abandoned and only partially shut, as there was still some workers, power in areas, pipes with stuff running through them, and security that either was the worst ever or didn't give a shit. It did not disappoint, I even went back alone the next day for a climb which probably was not a good idea for safety reasons. Pic links for Flickr, or also on IG 1. Thanks! Indeed, the best kind of security. The views from the top were just too much to take in.

Thanks. Industrial wasteland indeed. A rough polygon on Google Earth shows the whole area was about 7 or 8 square kilometers of continuous industrial complexes. I missed the peak abandoned state by about a year or two.

We were lucky that single engine was left. And it was bright and blue like that. Literally the only thing with a bright color anywhere around.

Thanks. I believe the furnaces are being preserved, from the looks of it.

Thanks! I really wanted to be inside and on that biggest tower but always saw activity in that area so steered clear, which was a darn shame.
