This is the definitive list. A few years back Essex put out a top 15 psych hospitals thread in celebration of visiting his 100th. But that list was not definitive. In celebration of visiting my 5th asylum, I've decided to put together a top five psych hospitals thread, now that I am qualified. 5. Allentown State Hospital This place was a whole other level of beautiful. Sadly I got there pretty late in the demolition process so these are the only photos I got. Still an amazing location all the way through.
allentown1
allentown2 4. King's Park Sure, parts of it are getting a little rough. But the seventh floor of building 93 makes it all worth it, full stop. Every square inch of that floor is pure beauty, especially the left half. Rest of KP kind of sucks though.
KingsParkPC-Building_93 3. Blackwell's Island Asylum Only 90's kids will remember this. Most incredible foyer I've ever personally had the privilege of getting to see, narrowly beating out the especially colorful pile of rubble at Allentown. Sadly, most of the campus was converted to other uses in 1902 or so.
Metropolitan_Hospital
Interior_Abandoned 2. Pennhurst State School Had a fucking sweet scrapping gig here until some dickhead narced on me, just to win brownie points with the local state troopers so he could explore the campus whenever he wanted. What a great gig while it lasted though
Admin-current-pennhurst 1. Pepper Middle School The one and only. I know, I know, pretty generic and cliche choice, but you've got to give it up to the greats. No other asylum comes close. Beautiful, highly functional architecture? Check Pristine condition? Check Beautiful views and scenery? Check Not to mention the tons of beautiful antique medical equipment left behind. Really the only bad thing one can say about this stellar location is that it's actually a middle school. But that's an overly pedantic reason to disqualify it form this list, so it gets first place.
pepper1 That's it, the definite tier list ranking of all the hospitals left in the Northeast. Hope you guys enjoyed, I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Pretty good. I do think you could have started and ended with pepper and called it. Looks like you didn't miss much at Allentown state. Especially since the proper people turned it into a shit show. I think it's great I've been to 3/5 of these.

All jokes aside, Pepper is a fantastic example of brutalism at it's finest.

For sure. It's also noteworthy as the first brutalist middle school designed in accordance with the Kirkbride plan

Kings Park is a great hospital because every room is the same so if you've seen one you've literally seen thousands. Also, every wall doubles as a forum discussing opinions on current events and population demographics.

Pennhurst wasn't a psych hospital, and I'm pretty sure Pepper isn't either.

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah |

Anyone who remembers UER back in the day would have a hard time believing someone could write that he had a scrapping gig at Pennhurst until he was caught by the police, and no one says a word.
