What's your guys opinion on a building in the heart of a city for a first urbexpedition?

I'm new to the forum and interested in getting back into the scene. I've found a place that is unfortunately located in a pretty populated/trafficked area. I've identified a place to get through a fence, but theres no guarantee I'd make it into the building. I'd probably try it at a time with low traffic, but doing all this alone for my first time seems pretty daunting, as there can be a decent police presence in the area. Am I an idiot for thinking about trying this? I'm worried of fines, as there's really no way to explain my presence.

I mean if you think you got a sure way in, consider going just before dawn? Get in while it's still dark, then wait a little bit for the sun to come up?

Or save it for Christmas, where there'd probably be much less attention on the property.

I'd definitely do it when there is less traffic and if you are sure you have a way in then go for it. I love pre-dawning locations as people are still asleep and it makes for great photos. Downside is that it is usually pretty cold during winter before dawn depending on where you are located. Best of luck.

Probably too late and you've either gone or decided not to, but on the off-chance that you haven't and are still thinking about it, I'd suggest getting a workers vest or jacket. That approach has worked for me countless times. I'll be stressing on the inside but as long as I keep my calm on the outside and try and act like I'm supposed to be there, most people walking by wont even notice.
Also, if you bring a clipboard, for whatever reason when people see clipboards they just let you do anything. They're like the towels from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, a miracle item.

In addition to the worry of cops, homeless people are also a risk worth considering seeing as how it's in a populated city. in my experience, they're usually pretty chill, but obviously that will differ from person to person. I imagine things could get ugly if for any reason they happened to be the territorial type and felt threatened by your presence.

With all that being said, I'd honestly still go for it. after dark is 100% a better option for dodging cops, especially between 11 and sunrise. And for homeless people, just be mindful and consider making your presence known so they realize you're not a threat.

Hard agree with all of this. Look like you belong, act like you belong.

eternal-star is also right about local homeless, if it's in a very convenient place. In my hometown, the homeless would congregate where the people were to maximize the effectiveness of panhandling and wouldn't move much; they mostly stayed within their neighborhood. Those who did would pretty much only take public transit and usually only the routes that ran extra buses due to going between hubs. For this reason, I never worry about encountering a squat anywhere on the outskirts or further.

Bottom line, you mentioned that you're new to the forum, but are you new to UrbEx? Whether I'd recommend it or not would depend on your personal skill which is really up for you to decide. It's not like a license exam where you can be gauged on your skill.
