This abandoned mental hospital was once the largest mental institution in the world. It is much more decayed than the prison I posted, as vines creep within the windows, like the ghosts. There was 100% another presence there, given that over 20,000 people died at this mental hospital campus. 05C40BF1-A451-484A-87B4-78D2763FB848 by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr 5D8597A2-4828-4A68-9725-1C67572AC461 by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr 804DF52A-690F-49A1-A46F-113E6BF27ADA by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr AA1ECCBD-9123-4151-9798-FCA10AC23ADC by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr 23B87BEB-1531-4279-89DE-D68DD954908B by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr 1C031B32-4A31-416E-8E00-17DDBB6A15FA by Urbex North Carolina, on Flickr

I love this spot, lots of security though

i love this place but the last time i went security was hounding us for walking on the grounds and warned that they were "locking people up without a second chance" and then yelled at us for parking in an old parking lot :/ super cool stuff tho and i love the picture of the windows

I tried going here on three separate occasions: Once in 2011 - was traveling from MA to GA solo and the car breaks down in Pennsylvania. Took two days to get it fixed in PA so had to go back to MA after that. Once in 2012 - again traveling from MA to GA, in my "new" car and with friends this time. Make it just over the line to CT from RI and the car dies on the highway. Ironically, while on the side of the highway one of my friends gets a call that his father just had a major medical event and it wasn't looking good so needless to say, we went back to MA later on. The final time, 7 years later in 2019, I now live in Georgia, splitting my time between Carrollton and Douglasville. I get wasted one evening at Printers Ale Mfg Co., (brewery in Carrollton) and go to sleep in my car in their parking lot as I was heading to where this hospital is the next morning. Get in the car and lay down and am all of a sudden covered in fire ants. After eating me and me needing to sleep at my friend's house, I get some supplies the next morning at Walmart and go to kill ants in my car. THEY ATE THE WIRING. Car is dead. I learned two things - I can never visit this hospital, ever, and also that Georgia is one giant fire ant hill.
BONUS: Here was the Mazda getting towed away from Carrollton and off to Heflin, Alabama to get fixed.
