Abandoned Fort in Queens

My friends and I did a bit of exploring at an abandoned Fort in the Northeast of Queens yesterday, which seems to be one of the more well-known spots near NYC. It appears this is currently used as an army training base, and there were many people walking around in military fatigues, but it was a very chill place to explore and no one seemed to mind us.

We only explored one building, which upon investigation appears to be the old YMCA... can anyone confirm this? The section we saw looked a bit like living quarters. I wish we had had a bit more time to explore other buildings or go deeper into this one, but it started getting dark, and we started getting creeped out by the black mold and unstable floors as we got to the second floor.

A view from the outside window.

The living room

There were government papers strewn all about.

A beautifully decaying wall.

More decay.

We made our way into the basement...

A second set of stairs took us up to the second story.

My favorite picture... Same view with no flash.

Delightful black mold. At this point we decided to turn around.

Another view of the living room as the sun set.

We did a bit more exploring of the Fort but didn't go into any other buildings. Here's the outside of the old theatre:

Doors were bolted but one could peek inside to see the disarray. Felt a bit like a conceptual art piece haha.

Anyone else been here? Any tips for next time we go?

I've been there with Essex a few years back, did one of the old theater buildings which I believe is next to the one you explored - both were part of the same YMCA I believe.

There's a lot more to see on that base but it's kept pretty tight, the active military stuff mixed with a public park is a really odd combination.

The last photo with the person really made me do a double-take on whether or not it was a photo or drawing/painting etc.
