Hello!
Fairly new explorer here. Geography major almost finished with my degree. A lot of my major classes have included field methods and other local based research which has spurred my interest in not only exploring locations of urban decay- but the rich history behind each building and the people who once utilized the spaces. I find the way that everything eventually returns to nature with enough time fascinating, and the stages of abandonment eerily beautiful.

Current semester project in my Field Methods class is to try and find a canal that was in use along the Mahoning River along the curve where Youngstown Ohio sits along the river. Our class is working with a History grad student to locate the position of the canal since it has been filled in and paved over for years- the canal was last used in the 1800's. Eventually we might use ground penetrating radar once we narrow the search area! Super excited to get hands on experience seeing the ground disturbances and to understand how to interpret them. This canal is older than the brick roads which are still used in some roads in downtown. But this project is just a learning experience for my class and will most likely not end by the end of the semester, so potential for no tidy ending.

Some of my other interest include exploring the streams and tributaries of local rivers/creeks/ponds/sounds/etc. I love finding weathered glass and other treasures for crafting. Might post finished projects here and the locations that I found the materials. I've also developed a knack for painting urban decay landscapes and if anyone appreciates realism I hope you'll enjoy my work. Lots of telephone poles in my paintings, weird nostalgia about them.

Lastly, I have favorite backdrops of graffiti and abandoned locations to take pictures showcasing grunge outfits and stuff. Might add a thread for those types of pictures.
