Burn down the Cold storage

At the end of the Dequidre Cut is the Hoban Cold Storage building. This 8 story warehouse was damaged in a fire, which is why most of the office property was torn down. The building used to be a tobacco plant, which is why the windows are bricked up instead of just a concrete wall.

I took this photo back when I biked the cut

This was a more recent fire, in the neighboring building

This room was under the untouched offices

The boilers had been snatched long ago, now the boiler room is filled with debris

There is an image of them from Detroiturbex http://detroiturbe...y/hoban/index.html

A Haels piece I saw in some documentary was here too

This building has one of the best views, you can see Fisher Body Plant 21, Packard Plant, Lee Plaza Hotel, Russell industrial center and Grand Trunk warehouse from the roof

The old sign, still fading that's neat

Sure, but unless the investor gets major tax credits, it's fantasy. Even then, many would rather buy & build elsewhere rather than follow requirements that historians & historical architect strangers would require.

Way too much $$$ to structurally re-fit the building, add modern HVAC, and create interior work spaces that people like YOU AND ME would demand these days.

So if someone is buying a place like the above, the concern needs to be that they haven't done due-diligence & understand what all the expenses and national/state/local requirements are going to be, and/or that they're just looking for something CHEAP and have no real intention of dumping $$$ into the renovating the structure.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
