After a lovely slide down a steep hill, with a rope that decided to give out just as I reached the bottom, I made my way to the Ford Steam Plant. Built adjacent to a Ford Assembly Plant, the steam plant powered the massive factory and its demands for energy. When the assembly plant closed in 2008, and following its demolition, the Steam Plant had already been sitting abandoned for many years. Left to the elements, in favor of more efficient methods of energy production. However, we made our way to the base of the plant, and peered up at the smoke stack looming over us, and made our entrance. Inside was an assortment of old machinery left behind. We walked through old break rooms and across catwalks above the plant floor. Making our way to the highest floor, we had reached the tunnel that had once connected the Steam and Assembly Plants. Now walled off, this served as a walkway for workers to get from one building to another, as well as getting closer to the massive network of tunnels that lie beneath the assembly plant. Concluding our trip meant a steep climb back up to street level, triggering a few small rock slides on the way back.

I'm impressed, I don't think I saw a single vault tag in your set.

Something in the back of my mind says that I did see at least one there, but lots of familiar tags in this spot

Nice shots! I've only ever been in there in winter so seeing it without all the snow is pretty cool!
"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there. | |
Very cool to see such a huge part of history. It's not as destroyed as i thought it would be. I would love to see the inside of the admin offices and control rooms. Great find.

Unfortunately, just as gutted as the rest of the building. I didn't include it in my post, but in the basement sit some of the original lockers, pretty cool! Also, I made a second trip over there fairly recently, and almost got caught by security driving towards the building. Haven taken a new route into the complex, I was able to use my original method of entry, climbing up a nearby rock face just in time to watch a white, unmarked Ford drive below. Ironic isn't it?
