In southern Detroit There is a very underrated abandoned building, in fact it is a neat 10-floor warehouse on the river. A massive painted on the sign on the side reads "Boblo Island" this building was on my list, so I checked it out on my urbex trip to Detroit. The old graffiti on the exterior had been painted up by some time in the 2010s
This is where the trains would arrive, there were some old rail markings around some buildings nearby suggesting an old railway had been removed
The owners or setters of traps committed a felony by setting traps like these
Would you go in these small-building-sized freezers?
I wonder if they repaint that blue... The font looks like it's fading
After walking back into the next one floor annex, I found a room full of pipes, big old generators and a couple boilers. Parallel to this room was the base of the smokestack too
This one lost the foam insulation on it
The cold storage half of the building (windowless) had girthy un-huggable pillars, and wasn't visited often
Albert Kahn's fancy elevators made the office area nicer
Some time in 2015 the 4th floor went up in flames. Somewhere on the internet is an image of the floor blowing fire out of its windows
As I got further to the roof, the layout for the office changed on one floor
The top floor had considerably more thin pillars, which weren't painted yellow and black like every other floor
The tops of the elevators, where water collects and falls down the walls, making each floor more and more wet
Big cords for big elevators
The skyline, crazy how there's a river between me and downtown

Cool find! I really like the up close shot of the machinery and the last picture of the distant bridge outside the window.

Love this shot, reminds me of the Ford Steam Plant here in St Paul and that facility's elevator -- still complete with the original artesian glass. Nice find!

I've had this place pinned for years. It is in the LDB (FM's only), but the last photo set is from 2014. Boblo Island Amusement Park used the dock there as a ferry stop. Last ferry in 1993, same year the park closed. In fact, a few interesting items remain of the amusement park itself on Boblo Island as well, however that would require a border crossing... Thanks for the updated tour - it shall remain a valid pin for me!

This building is great! Old industrial warehouses like this can have some great hidden areas, especially ones this size. The offices of buildings from this time are always cool to see. Real architectural gems. There was a great spot like this in East LA. I got to see it a few times over the years and even though the warehouse levels were cool, and had neat remnants, the offices were the best. Old wood paneling, maps, old posters and magazines, typewriters, old 1960s office furniture. Thanks for the pics!

It's a great spot this. On my first trip to Detroit I was on the roof to watch the sun rise over two countries which was pretty awesome. The 'generators' are pumps which would pump liquid ammonia coolant around the pipes in the building.

I have yet to do any exploring in Detroit, but this post makes me want to go even more! It seems that every corner you turn there seems to be an abandoned building in the city. Such a rich yet sad history.
