Hi all, I am fairly new to the forums, but I wanted to see what other people had thoughts/experiences on the topic of encountering the occult while exploring.
My most recent experience came while exploring one of the Twin Cities' best drains, the triple helix. As me and a friend made our way to the opening of the drain, we had passed two fishermen who gave us nothing but a short glance as we passed them, turning a blind eye to the trespassing that we were about to commit.
Nearly 200 ft into the tunnel, where a slight bend begins to the right, me and little_horns nearly came to a dead stop.
There was a group of men singing behind us, blocking the only non-manhole entrance to the drain. But this wasn't singing like belting out today's best hits - it was church music. But the strange thing was, none of the songs I heard I recognized, or even understood for that manner. After picking up our pace considerably to distance ourselves from the group of men, it donned on me that I couldn't understand them because I believe they were singing in Latin, or at least what sounded like it in the acoustics of the tunnel.
In decision that now seems illogical, we turned down a side tunnel, making our way up the spiral staircases that give this drain its helix name. We decided that if the singing got louder we would ascend to the street via manhole and try to make our escape.
However, it got quieter. They had passed our side tunnel. We decided to move back to the main stream, where we could hear the group had passed, opting to go further into the drain.
We made our leave, but as we came back into the light of a falling sun, we asked the men fishing, "how many guys just came down there behind us?"
"About 20 men"
A wave of relief passed over me, avoiding an encounter with a group that large, intentions benign or not, made me feel better than the alternative.
A group of college kids testing out their vocal skills, or something more sinister? What do you think?
Huh, that's not quite what I was expecting when I saw "the occult."
Last year I started looking for mountain caves used in rituals by shamans. I've never encountered anyone at them, but if I did I doubt it would be that frightening.
I actually did infiltrate a cult once, when they had a mass games event with 144,000 people attending. Their music was much more like K-pop. Glad I got out alive.
Man I thought this was going to be about growing up in the 80's. Back then you could find a dead bird, grab some chalk and head to a deserted lot, make some stars and send the vintage Karens into a full fledged fit!
