Wasteland Operations #02

This is Germany's Soviet legacy. Once built by the Nazis as an airbase for their Luftwaffe this enormous and secluded military area was occupied by the Red Army after World War Two. This was the biggest airfield in Eastern Germany with thousands of Soviet soldiers living here. But when the Iron Curtain was lifted, they left. For 30 years now, this has been a ghost town. Follow us to a Soviet wasteland!

Wasteland Operations #24

These are relics of Eastern Germany's Soviet occupation. The Red Army's air force was using this site as a bomber base at the very front. The hostile West was just 200 klicks away from here. But what you see is just the barracks - the former military base is much, much bigger.

Wasteland Operations #01

These apartment blocks were once home to 5,000 Soviet soldiers and their families. But today, these apartment blocks are nothing more than eerie empty shells. Before the area was handed over to German authorities in 1992, Russian troops stripped everything. Wherever you go here, you will find nothing anymore. Compared to where they came from, the Soviet troops had spacious accommodations in Germany. The conditions in these barracks were not exactly rosy, but back in the motherland it was much worse - there some soldiers did not even have a roof over their heads. So, when the troops left, they took everything with them - from the banisters to the door handles. Most of what remained was looted or vandalized in the past three decades. Since people did not fill the ruins with new life, nature did.

Wasteland Operations #05

This site is actually located close to Berlin. The Red Army was deployed to this place in 1950. Before that, there was only a small military airfield of the Nazi's Luftwaffe located here. First, this was destroyed by the Soviets, then rebuilt as a bomber base, and in the following four decades extended more and more. Today, the apartments are dominant, but in the past, this was like a self-sufficient city.

Wasteland Operations #20

Of course, every proper air base also has an airfield. This one, however, has a new purpose today. But you can still find old shelters where MiGs were parked in the past.

Wasteland Operations #11

We also found a bunker where the atomic bombs were stored that should have left Western Germany in ashes. To see more of the military compound and see the exploration of the bunker make sure to watch our video on YouTube:

I watched your video a while back but didn't know y'all were active on UER. This was really well done. It was on my shortlist the last time I was in Germany, but I never got to it.

Vielleicht naechstes Mal. ;)
