So I'd love to meet some explorers and make some friends. I am moving for a job and know no one, and I only know the stereotypical stuff about Vegas, blahblahblah. You can see my post history, I travel and explore a lot. Please feel free to reach out to me, and I'll likely reach out to some of you guys as well. I'm not looking for location hand outs, I tend to do just fine on my own. And if anyone comes up to Oregon or Washington in July, I'm taking the whole month off work while I transition jobs and location. So I'm available to explore with people that don't know the area there and am always happy to host.

Welcome to the desert southwest!! I've been in Vegas since 1980... I was going to live here a few years then move on. It didn't work out quite as planned. I'm not a traditional UE explorer since most of my exploring is ghost towns and abandoned mines. That said, I would be glad to meet up sometime to welcome you to Vegas. If you have any interest in underground exploring the I could introduce you to that aspect of exploration. Abby Normal

I will definitely reach out when I am there, thanks! I like ghost towns and mines, I'm down for about every aspect of exploring.

I travel to Henderson (a suburb of Las Vegas) about 3 times a year I can hit you up when I’m there
| |
I've lived in Henderson for the past 6 years. Vegas isn't for everyone, but I'm sure glad you've already got a job lined-up instead of being one of those people who move here on-impulse, with the fantasy of quickly lining-up a great job, etc. Try to really do some research on finding a nice home in a nice area -- nice obviously being a subjective term, or at-least get a short-term rental so you can familiarize yourself with the different communities, pricing, etc. and then work on getting what you want. Housing prices are HIGH right now, and houses go fast... I like living in a nice section of Henderson -- a mostly calm & quiet community (meaning my specific subdivision -- Henderson has some stereotypical ghettos & crime is increasing...), but if I want to get loud & stupid & surround myself with thousands of like-minded fools, the Las Vegas Strip is just a 20 minute drive away for me. When you arrive here in July or August, sorry, but no, it's not some insane heat wave that's going to be gone in a day or two -- welcome to Summer in the Mojave Desert. Stay hydrated, make that $$$ to keep your air-conditioning on 24/7 from June - October & to keep your car maintained, and you actually will kinda sorta get-used to the heat. As social as we can be, many of us kind of just hibernate in our homes from July - September when not at work. /-/oolie 7:14PM & only 88.7 degrees outside at the moment.

Good, helpful post! Got me thinking: if "hibernation" (from latin hiems) is what some animals (including some human ones, especially up here) do in winter... Then laying low over the summer season is called estivating, from latin aestas. I didn't wanna be a smartass: it's just that hiver means "winter" in French, and we also use the verb hiverner for "hibernate", so I figured there must be an equivalent word for summer. https://www.merria...l-with-summer-heat

Oh what good ghost towns are there to visit out there? Flights over to Vegas usually are stupidly cheap from the SF Bay Area - been wanting to go around to see ghost towns
