After the discontinuation of Flash at the end of last year, the UER 'Chat' button has been hanging around on the sidebar for 6 months now. Today, I finally removed it.
AvChat was first developed in 2004, and at the time was one of the first multi-channel, real-time chat systems on the internet. Browsers of the day could not make socket connections, but Flash could, and so AvChat was born.
It quickly gained tons of advanced features: Multiple channels, private messages, and even multiplayer games! And who could forget the wonderful Santabot.
Over the years, thousands upon thousands of conversations have been held on AvChat. There were even people who developed their own non-Flash clients for it.
If you were wondering, the last messages sent via AvChat were:

It must have been good fun in its day. I never got to check out AvChat but I'd say it's pretty momentous how, after 17 years, the chat's gone in a Flash, a casualty of ever-evolving times. Gone the way of IRC, ICQ, IM, actual socialising, sometimes... oops, did I say that one out loud? The list goes on and on.
Luckily, there's still the forum. Even though exchanges sometimes happen at a pretty glacial pace here, there's such a huge treasure trove of information in the back issues (so to speak). An invaluable resource, for sure! Glad I got here (somewhat) in time! ;)

Met some of my closest friends thanks to AvChat.
Funnily enough, while going through old hard drive stuff a couple days ago I found a screen-recorded video of Astro kicking my butt in Avtris, as per usual. Good times.

Rest in peace, AvChat. I have so many memories from my times in AvChat ('member ambien nights? Because I don't XD ).
For real though, thank you for all the memories and good times. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

I am shocked and dismayed to see that AvChat was gone after being absent from the site for far too long it seems.
So may good times and so many SantaBots later...
Will it ever be reborn into something new Av? One can only hope and pray!

Make it IRC based lol there's already tons of clients for it and it's about the same functionality of AvChat and I'm sure one of these new js web app clients could be rethemed to match UER pretty nicely
