Some spots were unfortunately heavily graffitied but that's OK because I still enjoyed the exploration. If I am correct, this place was used to shoot down enemy planes flying overhead.

This is my first time posting some photos I have taken on here so let me know what you think

Can we kill our patients?

We'd need to be able to identify the location I order to be able to provide you with historical info on it, including it's mission.

I will assume it was part of an Nike missile installation, however, specifically a Nike complex Administration area, where they housed enlisted personnel & offices.

For more info on the Nike program, look at:
http://www.ed-thelen.org/

Only you know the location of the site you went to. But you can see if that community is listed as having a Nike Launch Battery, Administrative area, and/or Integrated Fire Control site here: http://www.ed-thelen.org/loc.html

If what you went to was part of a Nike complex, understand that each Nike operation had at-least *TWO* separate locations, but usually within under a mile of each-other -- the site where the Nike-Ajax or Nike-Hercules missiles were actually stored, maintained & launched-from (Launch Battery), and the Integrated Fire Control facility that had RADARs to detect & track potential targets, and had the control vans the missiles were actually controlled from. These IFCs were normally on high ground, to give the RADARs better coverage. Sometimes there was a third facility nearby, called the Administrative area, but often it was collocated (slightly adjacent to) the Launch Battery or IFC, it all depended on the geography, and how much contiguous land they were able to buy back in the 1950s to build the sites. Using discretionary funds or even $$ donated by the local community to help provide for the morale & welfare of the Army & Army National Guard troops assigned to a site, some Admin areas even had a church and/or movie theater built on-site.

Also keep in-mind that if there's one Nike complex, there will be at-least several others, forming somewhat of a ring around the major city or installation the Nike sites were there to protect. You'll get the other locations from the above web page.

The Nike program was phased-out decades ago -- 1979 was the last year a few sites remained operational until, whereas some Nike-Ajax sites shut down in the late 1950s/early 1960s and most Nike-Hercules sites were shut-down by about 1974. Once deactivated, the properties were transferred over to the US Government Services Administration for further disposition -- GSA would try to find another federal, state or local government agency that could use the site for whatever (National Guard Armory, school bus depot, County DOT yard, low-security prison, etc.) and then they'd offer the property back to the original land owners they bought the parcel(s) from decades prior. Finally, they'd be offered to the public. Some sites have were heavily modified by the new user, some sites just sat mostly abandoned, with the usual decay, vandalism, and legal or illegal scrap-metal harvesting. Admin areas had mostly wooden structures, BUT the IFC & Launch Batteries had more permanent facilities -- cinderblock and even underground missile storage magazines for most Launch Batteries! That design was simply to save space, not to 'harden' the sites.

So, please do some research on this old site you visited, find out the location & disposition of the nearby site(s) associated with it, conduct aerial recon via Google Earth, etc. and then GO BACK and use the intel you've gathered to help with a more detailed exploration and documentation of remains.
