National Lampoons Vacation (Picture Heavy)

So my friends and I that I explore with 99% of the time went to a few resorts in the middle of nowhere...twice. I am condensing all the pics into 1 post for y'all to enjoy.

Location #1: We came to call this "Chernobyl" due to the extremely heavy damage and soviet block style hotel building.

Upon getting to this location we hit the main building which you will see in the next few shots and saw the bridge to nowhere, well it was to the pool but the stairs were missing. We climbed these icy stairs to the top trying not to fall.

After crossing the bridge that had some super spongy floors we made it to the end where a set of stairs should have been leading out to the pool area. I turned around and took this shot and played lookout for a few minutes. Then I made my way back to the stairs that brought us up.

Here is a view down the stairs we went up that leads back to the main room/hall. Oh and No I didn't fall down the steps but I did gracefully slide around a few times.

Here you can see 1 of the "soviet" style buildings that was the hotel portion of the resort and what we didn't even bother exploring due to the heavy damage to the floors. This would be the last shot I took here as we took off to the next resort just a few minutes away.

Location #2: My archnemesis I nicknamed "Ankle Pain Central"

This is from the first trip. After hiking for what seemed like an hour due to crappy footwear and other fun obstacles we made it to the second resort. Before going into one of the other buildings I took a shot of the hotel and I went for an old school film look and it came out pretty good, I think anyway.

Here we walked in and were greeted with this huge fireplace and lodge-like interior. Really warm and inviting even though it was freezing outside.

Going over through the main building we found ourselves a fancy indoor pool! It was a little shallow but still fun to go swimming in even if it was in our imagination.

A quick trip through this building that didn't have much but this really kool looking piano which turned into a fun photoshoot with the crew after we set everything up.

Here are the stairs to the second floor of the skating rink which if you go here make sure to watch your footing as it's kind of unsafe. But up there was a soda fountain and snack bar as well as a kool view of the rink.

Trip #2

Our second trip and my first time shooting this wall with my DSLR and not my phone. Down the stairs to what we will call the "Star Room" where my buddy performed a few hit songs karaoke-style. I thought the wall looked like something you would see in a tomb in Egypt I was a little annoyed with the graff but I guess it added a kool look to it as well in a weird way as much as I hate to say it.

Nothing special about this shot just liked the way it looked.

I FINALLY MADE IT TO THE TOP, The Presidential Suite!

After my first failed attempt due to my poor choice in boots I finally made it to the top and it was definitely worth it. Quite a few famous people have stayed at this resort and in this very room!

Slightly different angle and of course I had to go black and white on this one.

Okay this is the last one I promise. The light was freakin' killer!

The curtains on the "Star Room" stage. Another shot I just liked and thought I'd share. Nothing special.

I went off on my own for a minute and found this piano just chillaxin' out in the hallway. It still worked and just ever so slightly out of tune...Okay, it was really out of tune but it still worked!

Skis, ice skates and ceiling collapses oh my! This place must have been so awesome back when it was really active. It really had that Colorado ski lodge feel you see in the movies.

This is the last shot I took at what I could only assume was the daycare for the resort. Unfortunately, the interior was slightly compromised so I didn't explore everything but I thought this shot looked kind of kool with all the different colors of paint slapped onto the door.

Anyways that is the end of my set and I really hope that you guys enjoyed it.

Geez, these have gone downhill.

The first one has a weird backstory about how it became abandoned.

The Skver Hasidim bought the hotel in 2006 and turned it into a private resort, but let it fall into disrepair.

It was totally off the radar until there was an oil spill on the property and the fire chief started looking around.

“It’s deplorable,” said ___, fire chief in nearby ___, who has inspected the property. “You walk into the building, your eyes and your throat start burning from the mold. There’s mold growing on the kitchen walls, the fire exits are blocked, the sprinkler system is not working, the fire alarm is not set up… it’s nasty.”

The second one, that tower was supposed to be imploded in 2018. All those orange paint marks on the floors and walls mark the charge locations. Obviously that never happened.

Thanks for the info! I actually went to the one you posted pictures of last and didn't take any pictures. I decided to chill in the car while my crew went in. However, it's not the same one you're thinking of, The one I went to in the pictures didn't have the bowling alley in it like this one. I'd give more info but I'm afraid I'd give too much away lol. I'll just give the years 1998 and 2011 hopefully that will clue you in as to which place those first few shots are from.

Also, I did see all those orange marks and weird papers taped to the wall with black and white (maybe grayscale) marks on them in a circle in the high-rise.

I'm glad they haven't done anything as of yet, the place is still really awesome just a shame it's so destroyed. We also found other items that announced its possible reopening but due to Covid and other unforeseen events, it never happened. You can see advertisements for it all along the route to the resort.

Great pics.

That second one might be one of the most heavily-explored locations in the region, it's gonna be real interesting to look back in the future and be able to see the whole timeline of decay. Pretty extensively filmed/photographed for roughly the last decade.

Thank you for checking my pics out, Glad you liked them!

That's kind of dope when you think about it, The "Timeline of Decay" I like that. Things changed legit within just a couple of weeks of us being there, Naturally and of course by kids destroying stuff.
