Try old or closed. You'll run these dry pretty quick so you're gonna have to start researching various industries to get the good spots. Find the history of mental health in your state or paper companies that are going out. It gets very complicated but you figure it out.

Hey these are some good ideas, I've wondered as well, as I have less than good luck finding a lot of places haha. I usually bank on seeing something in passing, then returning later to check it out.

Honestly for me local facebook groups such as "Abandoned [your state]" tend to be good resources, especially for finding locations in more rural areas. The vast majority of the posts are going to be grainy exterior shots of farmhouses shot out a car window while flying past at 60mph on the freeway and thus not useful at all, but every so often someone posts a diamond in the rough.

I never post there myself since putting up photographic evidence of my trespassing ways under my real name seems unwise, but that doesn't mean I can't lurk and glean some information where I can.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Vacant and shuttered are good as is “demolition”, since stuff slated for demo is extremely easy to get into and also it’s time-sensitive, meaning that bu the time people who post on TikTok or YouTube see a posted shot if the place it is usually long gone.

Prior to the pandemic I would have a lot of success using “closed” as in:
Closed school
Closed bar
Closed offices

Since March 2020 it seems everything is semi-closed.

Also searching real estate sites and auction sites are usually solid leads.

I will also add that in the larger “Abandoned” groups on FB people (at least those in Illinois) will comment with things like:
This is near my high school
I live near here
I went to college near here
This is off Highway x

It’s extremely easy to check a FB profile or Google someone and track down those FB locations.
