Went to a well known prison a few days ago with plight and xiketic. Upon arrival, it was pretty obvious some work was being done involving the site. After finding a way inside we discovered that the building had been mostly stripped out and was getting cleaned out of asbestos and other chemicals with ventilators. Most, if not all the doors and windows had been sealed with a plastic covering which actually worked out in our favor, as it diffused the bright afternoon sunlight for our shots. Apparently they've been in the process of cleaning out this spot since earlier this year, but I can't help but wonder why they're doing this. I really don't see a purpose for demoing the site just yet and can't imagine them repurposing it as a tourist attraction or something like that. Regardless, this was a fun explore with a great group of friends. Looking forward to seeing everyones shots!

The presence of paint suggests that they are trying to clean it up for reuse. The first room in your images was fairly tagged up a few months back:
Really surprised they are reusing it at this point. For that matter, I wonder who is reusing it, since I doubt the current ownership could afford to perform abatement on the entire structure.

Wow, so much has changed since I was there not that long ago! Sad to hear so much history will soon be lost! Glad to see you made it @cleipelt before it was gone for good!

Wow I didn't even realize they were shutting down FORA. Been a hot second since I've been up that way. End of an era is right.

They even demolished the FORA office, it looks like they moved the model map that was at the gym to the office. They left it behind after closing, wondering if it was saved.

Wow. I forgot all about this spot. I remember the guard towers were pretty cool here too.

Guard towers are still up, for now. I'd like to go back once more before it's fully demolished and since I missed a portion of the prison on this trip. If anybody would like to join, let me know.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but this location has been demolished as of this morning. RIP to the Fort Ord Prison. It had a good run and was one of the coolest locations I’ve ever explored.
