So, I've been wanting to explore for a while, and I've had some ideas, but I'm a little hesitant. How does one go about discovering new places? I realize there's a sort of "search and find" mentality to it, but I mean past that. Do you search through public records, take back roads that look abandoned, or anything else? In the same vein, what are some useful skills for Urbex? I know lockpicking and social engineering are some, but what about others?

It's cool, rookie mistakes. Just be sure to give that and the FAQ section a solid read through and you should be able to avoid stepping on any toes for the most part lol.

I spend a lot of time on Google Maps Sat View (Google Earth) then go to the street view and walk around different areas. Look for rust on roofs or anomalies in open spaces like pads to old factories, etc.

Not to worry, this may a "thing" but not a prohibited thing. Asking for locations may incite some to anger on UER but I see nothing wrong with asking "how" to find locations on your own. Lots of good tips on here use the search tool, if youre looking for abandoned buildings the methods and skills will be different than looking for drains or active locations to infiltrate. (active locations are everywhere if youve got a little initiative, some courage, a good cover story and it helps to look the part) If you wear saggy baggy camouflage shorts in winter and a hoodie in summer you reduce the number of places you can infiltrate. Try fitting in and not looking like a thug or vandal sometimes you can get into places and not even be noticed.
