Nervous

Hi I am new here, of course. I just started UER'ing, well sort of I haven't done any UER'ing just yet. I am a bit nervous about getting out there and exploring. Has anyone ever felt nervous when they were starting out? A couple of days a go I was scouting out a few places to explore and as I was doing it a guy stopped me and ask me what I was doing driving around. He said that he owned the area and gets worried when people drive around his land. Then he followed me out of the area. Is it normal to feel normal to feel nervous?

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. There are still times when I'm getting ready for a particularly challenging explore that I get a bit on edge. Time and experience help. If you can find someone who is an experienced explorer in your area, meeting up for your first explore or two isn't a bad idea.

Enjoy your new adventure!

Being nervous is totally normal, especially if you're just starting. The more experience you get the easier everything will be. I still get nervous when I do some places, but I just remind myself of my plan if anything goes wrong and push through it. Being with someone else, especially an experienced person, makes it much easier because you have someone to help make decisions if it ever comes down to it.

And a little tip for the future. Running into the property owner if you're doing something like driving around the outside can be a good opportunity to ask for permission to do it. They're generally more likely to yes to someone on the spot rather than plan something through email or over the phone.

Good luck and have fun!

If you're not nervous at the start then you're doing it wrong.

The more you do it, the regular nervousness will fade and instead be replaced with a feeling of nervous anticipation. That weird feeling of fear and excitement in your stomach which I still get from time to time whenever I'm doing something big or more risky.

Thanks all you for letting me know it's normal to feel nervous at the beginning of UER'ing. I just wish I could find someone in my area to go with me so I don't have to go alone.

since the previous replies have already made pretty good points, i'm just going to add a little bit of what i personally think may be useful:

as ryanpics said you can definitely ask for permission if you do end up speaking with the owner of the property already. in my opinion, it doesn't hurt to be truthful about why you're there to show that you're not suspicious/threatening and this usually lowers their guard.

maybe tell him that you like taking pictures and wanted to explore the site because it looked interesting. people generally love talking about themselves/their possessions/etc, so if you also ask about the history of the particular property, and you may learn something new from the property owner.

Likely restating the obvious, but it helps to talk with the property owner about all the stuff mentioned above before getting caught sneaking around on their property. This tends to dim their view a bit.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

I've been on the fringe of UER'ing for years now and I've done quite a few abandoned locations but that was over a drawn out period of time and I usually don't go because I'm a lone female and the hubby isn't too keen on me going solo. I am a nervous person all the time (hence I smoke a lot of tree) but what I have started to find, is that the nerves of getting ready to go explore is PART of the whole thing. It's good that we are nervous. It sharpens our awareness. Keep researching, planning, and pushing yourself past those nerves. Know that you are not alone in your feelings and hopefully that will help you to stand firmer, a little taller, and confidently forward into the unknown. All the luck to you in your further adventures!
