I recently went to explore a superfund site in the DFW area that shall remain nameless. Outside there was a large sign that said "beware of dogs". I came all that way so I decided to proceed with caution. I made my way around back and found a whole in the fence. But before going through I made a lot of noise whistling, clicking, clanging, and calling to see if I could get any dogs to show themselves. After waiting quietly I saw and heard nothing. I went through the fence and explored the back of the place.
At this point I proceed to the side of one of the buildings and peeped into it through a doorway. I heard a noise which sounded like footsteps(it wasn't). So I retreated back to the edge of the property. I waited and watched and saw and heard nothing. I made my way slowly to the back of the building where I heard the noise coming from.
Right off to the left of me taking this picture I saw a massive german shepherd laying on the ground about 12 ft away from me(he didn't seem to notice me). At that point I decided to leave. Slowly making my way out I ran across two other dogs sniffing around on the ground where I once was. Avoiding them aswell just as I made it through the fence I saw another two dogs. This time one noticed me and let out a few barks. In all honesty the dogs didn't seem that threatening and kinda dumb. But being by myself and spooked I didn't care to find out. I guess I'm posting this because I usually feel "beware of dog" signs as a veiled threat. More of a deterrence if anything. Also I wonder who takes care of the dogs because the site didn't appear to be accessed anytime recently. It's also quite unfortunate because there is a lot of cool things on the site and its very untouched.

Seem more like pet dogs than guard dogs. Pictures look cool though, and you came out with a nice story as well.

I know this is an old post, but I know exactly where this is and I've been here. Sort of. The dogs are were actually not as vicious as I had expected when we came across them after assuming the sign was just a scare tactic like you did. I'm basing this assessment on the fact they did not tear us to shreds when they noticed us on the property. However, the guy on the property next door is a bit scarier than the dogs were and he was pissed when he caught one of us. He didn't call the police (surprisingly), but there was no talking him down or explaining anything. I highly recommend avoiding the guy on the left when facing the property from the street. I never attempted that one again after that first time, but maybe I should give it another shot. It did seem pretty interesting.
I wandered till the stars went dim.

Luckily I was able to remain under the radar of the man next door. I caught a glimpse of him and I was extremely spooked out, I'd rather come across scrappers than this guy.
