Hey ya'll, seems like there is enough demand for a film photography specific board, so I thought I'd throw one together. Anyone is invited and I guess we can discuss various film stuff, like different techniques such as pushing/pulling, cross processing, various development tricks, film recommendations and dis-recommendations...you get the idea. So yeah. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Yay. I primarily shoot digital but I also do a lot of medium format, so this is quite cool with me. I go to start ice-breaker thread now!

Heh, I am starting to play around with film some now too - I got a A-1 2 weeks ago or so, and I got a couple shots of Alpha from it which I think are ok, and I have been playing with long exposures with it. I have been using my digital a lot less recently. I might get a manafretto tripod with a nice solid base, and an ok head today - $75 at a garage sale, or less if I can barter them down... Anyways, I'm not fixated on digital.

Well I decided there's shit I can't do on my digital - some of those cave shots, and nice star trails are impossible, plus the tonal range in B+W, and the ability to take ISO 400 shots hanheld in low light if needed without an assload of noise, and a good extra two stops of speed to play with over my digital's lens. I've been bracketing 1/2 hour shots since 10:00 - trying to figure out a good aperature for star trails with a building in them.

You can use your digital camera has light meter if you have a manual mode and even better: spot mesure mode. I don't bring my old Sekonic anymore now. Of course you won't meter 1/2h exposure with a digital camera.

Thats the plan. I do have manual mode, and a histogram I can check when I remember to. Do you find that your digital works well as a meter for film, as long as reciprocity isn't a factor?

yeah, up to now I had no problem, comparing my slr meter and my digital spot mode on the same surface gave me result egal. No camera or meter will take the reciprocity factor in the equation, you have to calculate it depending on the type of film you use.
