Explore of Discovery Island in the middle of Disney World! Going in the daylight was not possible, so we went when it got dark, and camped there over night. We spent around 20 hours on the island.

Funny the difference between exploring generations. A guy went years and years ago, probably like 15 years, and hardly anybody knew. Now, this is posted for the entire world to see with the name and everything.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure the place is awesome, but the 'stressfull' editing is too much. Those kind of videos where the main topic is gonna be you and not the place is not my cup of tea :/
Now to be pragmatic, that's somewhat a qualitative work.

1. I NEVER said we were the first to explore the island. I said we were the first to camp there overnight. In fact, I made note of messages left by previous explorers, especially standard stealth and Matt Sanswa.
2. You can't publicly blow-up this location, its already blown up. Millions of people see the island every year, its literally in the middle of Disney World, and the posts by the first guy to explore the island went viral back in the day. And Bright Sun films and Sanswa have a combined 2 million views about the island.

I get the feeling many people on here are haters. I don't hate them back but definitely likely not the kind of people I'd enjoy hanging out with. The maxpowerssucks movement is a bunch of child like bologny. You are an active urban explorer and you create content and share it with others. Also I think creating videos takes more skill than taking still photos. Truth is everybody on here does it for the views. All these older generation explorers hating on the younger generations for sharing pictures on Instagram and videos on Youtube are hypocrites. Urban exploring is a sport. The game is who can take pictures of the most insane places and get the most insane photos. Then you post them online and create a explorer identity and try to rack up as many likes followers as you can. Then when you have a thousand plus real followers and other big shots are talking to you then your like a professional urban explorer. Really a bunch of BS. Nearly everyone does it though. I sort of am by being a member on this forum. I just don't quite see what it is about you that everybody hates. Like sure your videos are a little cheesy but that's probably intentional. No offense. But nonetheless despite me thinking that some are pretty cheesy I like them more than I dislike them.

I am quite frankly am feeling more and more burned out of this game/activity. Like exploring is fun. But like the whole image sharing thing stresses me out more than I get satisfaction and benefit positively from doing so. But then the thought strikes me... Well if I am not going to take pictures to share them then why the fudge go urban exploring to take pictures all together? Been at this conflict for a while now. I don't really find going to locations without a camera enjoyable.
Those that create youtube channels though and rack up thousands of followers I think are in it for ideally some income eventually and that I think is respectable. But going on nearly ten years only doing it for likes online is just becoming dull and meaningless.
Anybody else sort of feeling the same vibe/feeling as me?
Maybe within the next six months I will be 100% offline on all social media /forum platforms How many active urban explorers would you guys guess are not on any online applications? Haha maybe besides google maps?
Keep going to strange places and making videos... ONLY IF it actually makes you HAPPY.

This is what exploring has turned in to. It is NOT what exploring was. This is specifically why you see the “old guard” vs “new guard” friction that you describe in your post. Was there a degree of ”one-upsmanship” amongst the old guard. Absofuckinloutly...you bet there was. But there was also a respect for locations as well as a camaraderie amongst the old guard that the new generation doesn’t share. I also believe the motivation is completely different. Your generation explores for completely different reasons than mine did.
Urban exploring jumped the shark years ago...
Full disclosure...I no longer explore and haven’t in quite sometime. I was extremely active at one time as people in this very thread can vouch to.

^THE SPOT HAS BEEN BLOWN-UP FOR YEARS NOW. . There are at least 50 Youtube videos (racking-up millions of views across the entire world), and dozens of articles about the island, and the explorers who have been there. There have been reports about explorers visiting the island on local Florida TV networks. Not to mention the MILLIONS OF PEOPLE who remember visiting the island before it closed. Its one of the most famous abandoned places on Earth. This isn't some obscure power plant, or house in the middle of nowhere. This was a giant tourist trap that has been written about the past two decades.
And to the people who say urban exploration is about "preserving history," how are you preserving history by hoarding photos and videos that you took at abandoned locations? That's like taking all history books in schools and throwing them in a vault and not letting anyone look at them.
We document history so that people can know, and understand what happened in the past. If you want people to appreciate the history of abandoned places, you have to first teach people the history of the locations, why it's significant, what happened there, and what's left of it. Say what you want about my channel, but my videos have actually educated hundreds of thousands of people on the history of some abandoned places. The photo/video hoarders have not educated anyone.
So you want people to appreciate, and respect abandoned places, but you don't want to tell anyone about abandoned places. Tell me how that makes any sense. And btw, the best way to ensure that historic places aren't demolished is by showing people how incredible and important a location is. That cannot be done by hoarding photos, and being anti-social.
And yes, I make my videos fun and entertaining. No one is going to watch a bland-ass video of some guy with a robotic personality walking around an abandoned building. And I don't want to edit and create a boring video. And I'm also not ashamed to admit that I will continue to try and gain followers, and I want to make money off of my channel so I can make money doing what I love: filmmaking and exploring.
Furthermore, on a different point: explorers have been exploring, and documenting their findings (and making them public) for thousands of years. From Marco Polo to Shackleton. If it were up to some people on this forum, half the world wouldn't even be on a map.

I would love to hear what those reasons are that your generation of explorers explored for, that's different than mine. I believe you. Did you burn out? Why'd you stop? And if you retired from exploring why do you still lurk this forum often? So your used expression "jumping the shark" ... Another words urban exploring isn't cool anymore...? I could understand that and perhaps its got a lot to do with those changed motivations?
