Meanwhile, here in Texas:
"Texas reported over 2,500 new coronavirus cases Wednesday—the highest reported in a single day by far since the pandemic started—as the number of Texans currently admitted to hospitals for coronavirus climbed to a new record for the third straight day, as the state, which had one of the fastest and most aggressive reopening timelines in the nation, has seen a surge in infections about two weeks after Memorial Day."

I have a bad feeling that this is just the beginning and it's going to get a lot worse here in the next few weeks.

The George Floyd related events didn't help with social distancing. It's difficult to say if it's related to this spike or not. Pride Fest 2020 in Des Moines was scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled. When it remains cancelled or happens spontaneously without official sanction, remains to be seen. https://americanin...he-blazing-saddle/

It's official, the Iowa State Fair is cancelled. The website says postponed until 2021. Same sh!t, different wording. https://www.iowastatefair.org/safety/ People around Iowa are losing their minds over this. I could really care less. IDK - no exposure is like overexposure. No Exposure: I've never been to the Iowa State Fair. Growing up in NYC, the state fair in NY was like 7 hours away in Rochester, so going to the state fair was a non-starter. I never really developed an interest in that sort of thing. Overexposure: I lived (literally) across the street from Rockaways' Playland. Playland cost money and when I was a kid, I didn't have much of it. I could get free rides in exchange for doing odd jobs for Playland, but you could only ride the roller coaster so many times before it became dull. Platland was my first exploration. Infiltrating Playland in the dead of winter. That was interesting.

What will the world do without the hog/husband-calling contest? Times are hard indeed.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

This is the hands-down worst fucking girl-watching season in Montreal history. I'm so ogle-deficient I'm actually thinking of investing in some image-stabilized binocs just to get the most out of it. How sad is that?

I infiltrated NY to visit my mom. In addition to having PA cops at the airports and armed soldiers at Penn Station checking people, they had sheriff's deputies manning checkpoints at the bridges and tunnels into NYC from NJ. I successfully evaded their checkpoints and the $16 toll by taking an alternate route
Just to be safe while moping around NYC with Iowa plates, I did submit my information into the NYS reporting system. It's just a simple webform and easily bamboozled. Yes, I did get a call from the health dept to verify my information.

Been a while since this was updated. I went to a socially distanced punk show yesterday. Our daily cases have shot up to around 200 over the last couple days, once again caused by an uncooperative church. They just had a massive anti-government rally yesterday so it's likely we'll see further infections.

I think we've settled into a new normal.

It'd been quieting down over here and life was returning to normal. Turns out one of the church leaders of that mass anti-government rally was infected, so our numbers are expected to keep climbing.

Currently down into single and low double-digit deaths per day in the UK on average. The official death toll was also revised down by over 10% after it was found that the way COVID-related deaths had been counted in England was completely ridiculous, to give an example if someone had tested positive in March, fully recovered and then was killed in a car crash in July that went down as a COVID death because they had tested positive for it at some point previously.

Some people get really bent out of shape about the facemask shtick. I gave up and drank the facemask Kool-Aid. Although I had to add a little Radio2600 flair to it.

Covid, well, hasn't really been a issue first-hand for us. I never lost hours or work. Just got back from vacation. Pretty much ignore mask and my area is hiring like crazy all around so, yeah, not really been a issue here.

Can not fucking wait to spam "LOL" on the inevitable medical gofundme requests from the two users immediately above me in this thread, whether for Covid or anything else. Seriously, fuck both of you special little snowflakes.

I was exploring a new site today, and as I was leaving I put my mask back on. Made me nostalgic for the days when we used to do that in reverse.

Walmart supposedly has a facemask requirement, but it's not enforced. Outside the stores, they have some wearing a badge that reads "Health Ambassador". As I'm going into Walmart and some guy is walking in who is not wearing a facemask. At that point, the Health Ambassador calls out to the unmasked person: "you have to wear a facemask." The response the Health Ambassador got was getting flipped-off by the guy that kept on going without a mask. That was it. No call to management or AP. The Health Ambassador just ignored it.

Here in the UK it's a requirement of entry into retail shops that masks are worn - however various large companies have said they won't enforce the policy as it's not their jobs, and the police don't want to enforce it either as it's not their jobs. The bottom line is wearing a mask in a shop now is what's called being a decent human being.

Things are somewhat predictably going back to shit in the UK, or at least in certain ways. Cases are once again rising a lot, it's now up to around 2750 cases a day on average. This is almost entirely down to people in the 17-34 age group who have pretty much stopped taking any notice of anything, the proportion of confirmed cases within that age group is vastly more than any other age groups currently. However there are a few caveats to this new surge, in that the majority of new cases are situated in areas that have seen proportionally more cases for the last few weeks, the so-called 'hotspots'. The large amount of new cases is also due to a great increase in the number of tests being done over the last few weeks in those hotspots as capacity has grown a lot, obviously the more tests you do the more you'll find. Most importantly however, even though the amount of new cases has been growing at some rate for the last few weeks now, hospital admissions and serious cases that require ICU treatment have remained low and stable, as have deaths. That being said, from tomorrow in England gatherings of more than six people anywhere, either inside or outside, are banned. The previous limit was 30, and it's hoped this will help stem or at least slow the new spread. Just the other day an idiot teenager was handed the maximum possible fine - £10,000 - for having a party with nearly 50 people in his house in one of the 'hotspot' areas.
