Back in 2018, a Russian friend came to Korea to film some scenes for a movie project he was working on. I didn't help other than offering some basic advice on a couple locations and urging caution about oversharing, which he heeded. There were some talented and accomplished urban explorers involved, most of them behind the camera.
The film itself is odd, and the point of the plot is a little hard to follow, especially since he cast two heavily accented non-English speakers in the narrative frame role (one was his girlfriend, although also a talented explorer in her own right).
There are a lot of cliches that are parodied in this video, and it can be a little hard to follow unless you're familiar with social media urban exploring "culture," which the film criticises heavily for being too monetised among other things. So it's probably best to read this interview I did with him in which a lot of his intentions and references are laid out.
There's certainly a lot to lambast about much of the Instagram side of the community- too self centered, utter disregard for discretion, focusing on fame rather than personal achievement or historical discovery, the list goes on.
But the commercialization of urbex was described in that article as a gold rush, and one that's slowly coming to an end. All the better I think- when the last of the prospectors leave for wealthier pastures, we'll still be here, and we won't have to deal with dodging the spotlight.

I agree, and when interviewing him I was surprised to learn more about this side of urban exploring I'd been mostly ignorant of throughout its four-year history. I knew a lot of the people and saw what they were doing, but it didn't come together in my mind as a particularly describable phenomenon the way he put it.
I'm in this movie for a split second, although I originally had lines. I don't mind that I kind of got cut kind of. I didn't feel comfortable in front of the camera. My main job was getting cast and crew in and out of the tunnel while the usual entrance was flooded. My name is still on the poster which I don't quite understand.

This book helped me to believe in the perfection of new ideas. It seems to me that our young people should watch the film adaptation of this book.

Totally coincidentally, I ran into one of the actors in this at a house party a couple hours ago, and he gave me another highly amusing behind-the-scenes story about some of the rooftop shooting they did.
