The fortress of Rocca Montis Draconis was built between the eighth and ninth century by the veterans of the city of Sinuessa. It rises at the top of Monte Petrino. The original structure of this building is not the same that can be imagined today by observing the ruins still existing. The towers that still glimpse, some square, others circular, lead us to think that they were built in different eras and that without a doubt there was already an ancient building before the imposing fortress was built. The architectural lines make us infer that it is a construction built between the High and the Late Middle Ages, and that has undergone changes over the centuries. The present castle looks like a massive square building composed of two floors resting on the steep part of the mountain, with its foundations that follow the wavy live rock. The main entrance was located towards the west. At present the fortress is reduced to ruins that over time will disappear permanently.
