Questions

A friend and I recently went on our first Urbex trip and bought no supplies along (I now know you need stuff) but found it very entertaining. We now have a supply of the basics and waterproof backpacks and were planning on going out again soon to hunt for some abandon places. Our first time we barely got away from the police but now we have a radio scanner so we are 1 step ahead of the police now. But we don't know how to find abandon places. Are there tips? We would like to record and post on here. Also if were attacked should we run or confront (If we cant run)? I figured we are trespassing so fighting someone that attacks us is probably going to end up our problem because we weren't supposed to be there anyway. We still have a lot of questions but those are just the basics we want to listen to some experts opinions and learn what to do.

For finding abandoned places I use an alternate Instagram account and follow a few photography accounts, I already know a good amount of locations in my area but it never hurts to have someone do the work for you if you can't explore often. Flickr and other photography apps also work well for this.

As for running or confronting I would always run. If its the property owner you wouldn't want to escalate things anyways. However if you can't run make sure you have a good story to stick to and don't be aggressive and they may let you off the hook.

I am also curious about what police scanner you use.

If being attacked is a concern at a location, don't go there. I've been to over 40 locations in 8 states and I've never been attacked. I've been told that radar detectors can detect motion sensors as well, not sure if this is true. As for finding locations, this thread will help http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=83183 Indiana is an amazing state to explore. From Gary to IAAP, which is almost gone. Best of luck to you and your exploring buddies.

Running ALWAYS makes the situation worse if you've already been seen. It's extra charges on top of what you are doing and leads whoever is after you to believe you have malicious intent.

I suppose your right. My only experience being caught by someone other than police is by a guy running at me before I even stepped on the property.

Never run from cops; you'll likely end up with a felony charge if caught for evading/eluding or resisting arrest.
WYSIWYG; why lie when the truth would serve you better?
If you want to piss off a cop fast, lie to them.
If you must lie, lie only by omission.

Scanner? Extra junk and the cops will really wuv you

That said, feel free to run from property owners, security guards, and random crackheads if you feel that talking won't end well. They have no legal authority to detain you, so as long as you can lose them before the cops show up, you'll be fine.

As for finding locations? There's a million and one threads on it, so I'm not going to go into detail. I can give you some broad advice though.

- Follow the railroad tracks and rivers
- Focus on the industrial and/or low income areas of town.
- Keep an eye on city redevelopment projects.
- Take detours during your daily routine.

Take caution with that scanner. Depending on local laws, getting caught with it can be worse than getting caught with a weapon. I think it might even be a federal offense.

That said, feel free to run from property owners,

Running from a guard is a lot different than a property owner.
The owner has a vested interest and if it's a house it can go to hell fast.
Depending where and what you are doing any bystander including a guard may have the right to make a citizens arrest.
I know one contractor that's been known to patrol his sites well armed.

Keep a low profile and don't get too cocky... shit happens.

I wouldn't say always. I've always ran if someone came, including cops. I've never been caught or identified but running has definitely saved my ass a few times.

Unless you're in direct danger, I would never say confront. Avoid anyone and everyone you don't know if you're worried they could be authorities/dangerous. If you're worried about being jumped, go with at least 3 or 4 people and bring a blade you can easily keep in your pocket.

Actually, its an app for IOS called 5-0 Scanner you can listen to any police, fire, and ems stations near wherever you are. I can verify it is free and works!

If you're worried about being attacked, you don't belong there.
That goes double if you feel you need a weapon...
Don't go.

this .

Why all the teenage weapon and illegal drug threads? is this the new URBEX? Bongs and bandos and Bowie knives?

We got rid of the neo-nazi and Ramboesque violence threads

Listen to people like Blackhawk who have been around, these type posts tell me youre not up to urban exploring or maybe even trolling...

(for the record, I have no real experience with anything, Ive never been attacked not even close while exploring in the worst parts of DFW, except by some feral dogs and I convinced them I was picking up a rock to chunk at 'em)

((my advice is let these troll posts die, no need to feed the trolls))
