Was there just one place where Therrin happened?

I don't think so.

As I recall he just pretty much happened everywhere, all the time, for a while.

Guy had a lot of good information about a lot of things, but also... Therrin.

As for Therrin, just look him up and go through his past postings... Including the Archived ones.

Dude was a total douche, misogynist and overall scumbag.

I never had any issues with Therrin; he was PBED while I was still PBed... guess he might have had a super nova.
Rather pointless to review his threads/posts now as the worst ones were likely deleted.
-Unless- you watch the threads/posts as they happened, -you- don't know to whole story.
We all go through tough times, go to pieces, do things we regret and many times it spills out here.

He was one of the better explorers here and posted a lot of good info from what I recall.
Better to take the heat of a bright sun than get suck into a black hole, or tolerate a meaningless vacuum... many of UER's best members are gone.

I tried and failed finding one of his later posts, when he jumped down a female member's throat for looking for exploring partners. He was always especially aggressive with female members, and if there was some disagreement he'd set out to destroy them, usually by making sure he insults them in ways he could never possibly take back.

He clearly had mental issues or substance abuse issues, and about a year ago he self-destructed on Facebook and blocked a ton of people he'd still been in contact with.

People knew this and knew how to press his buttons. I'd always warn him "A bunch of people are going to try to lure you into a flame war so they can try to get you banned" and he'd inevitably always take the bait anyway. Though I guess these days that kind of behaviour is a lot more acceptable.

Fun fact: Railguy88 once threatened to leave him in the desert on a UER meetup trip.

Better than a hellhole Social media is poison though. No one needs to know every one of your thoughts as they happen in real time.

I've been on a lot of forums and I think some people just get really attached to the forum and it becomes more than just a communication tool to them. I don't think I'll ever understand the territorial defense of a certain sub-forum or the like.

Well, this seems like a big deal. Maybe even worth an education. I'm more interested in FM for the database but I'm not useless without it. I can still find locations. I'm here to contribute my own work, not mooch off of anybody else's or develop an elitist snob opinion. That's so much like Facebook. I thought this group was above that.

I'm sorry my original post got under your skin. I'm here for the hobby, not to have moral pissing contests with anybody.

that's what I was interested in

in 2005

now the DB includes a bunch of phony locations, public tours, vacant houses, locations listed in the wrong city, locations labeled as demolished which are still standing, but best of all locations with no description and no history just some crappy phone pics and graffiti photos

some resource

and its going to get worse

I'm just here to share my work. There doesn't seem to be many people from New Orleans here, nor are there many public locations for Louisiana at all. Maybe there are more available in FM, but I'm not counting on it. I'm not here to gain FM and just run straight to DB. There's a shit ton of places around here. More than enough to not even need a database. I'd like to be the one to add locations, though.

But to make myself clear, I'm here to share my own work.

if you took my post as combative, you're wrong.
if you are all about a pissing contest, keep on trucking, pal... not with this group. There are people here are forum neutron bombs waiting to go off, mang.

like others here, we're veterans of the politics board... that's a horror that you can't even begin to wrap your head around. This thread you're curious about was a minor brushfire war compared to that apocalypse. It was so awful, none of it was even archived... it was nuked in the fire of the big delete by the guy who owns this board at the urging of his staff. hehehe

grow a thicker skin or stop reading into things.
as for the DB, please use it... there is so much work put into it over the years. So much great photography and legwork. So few people look at in last few years and that's a shame. If I had been granted FM status, that's the first place I would land.

welcome to the forum. come for the photos, stay for the people you meet.

I feel like you should try reading my post again, without your tight pants on. I clearly said I wasn't here for a pissing contest and you blatantly went the other way with it. And I'm guessing my response here will seem combative?

I do want to see the DB but I'm not boundry-breaking desperate for it. I can put in the work for my FM.

My skin is thick. I'm still playing it cool in this engagement. This isn't my first time being in a message board with trigger ready mods and cynical attitudes. Don't forget I'm from New Orleans and that shit runs as a standard for the normal human, here.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but that's because it's not moderated anymore. The dedicated DB Mod hasn't even signed in to UER in over two years, and the vast majority of the mods aren't active anymore, or at least not regularly. I don't know if the non-DB mods' powers extent to the DB, or if they even try to moderate it if they have the power, but that's why it went downhill, or at least part of it.

The DB needs new moderators. Having two or three moderators who's sole job is to enforce the rules of the DB would go a long way towards fixing things. They may not be able to handle things such as demolished locations marked as standing and vice versa; that's the duty of all of us to deal with, as a community. But the moderators can curtail improper DB entries (no pics or descriptions), obviously false coordinates (in the middle of a lake, for example), blatantly made up locations, public tours, locations listed in the wrong city, etc. Once they get through the backlog of entries to check, they can simply just verify that new entries are up to snuff whenever they are submitted.

But it's not just new mods. Above all else, the DB needs us as a community to take responsibility for our regions and start fixing them where needed. Instead of complaining about problematic locations, we need to start self policing the database. Let the mods handle removing what needs removing. We need to start adding to and correcting DB entries where we see issues, instead of just complaining about how it's all going downhill.

If every explorer takes responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of just their city's part of the DB, then we'll see the DB return to glory. But until we as a community decide to fix it, nothing will ever get done.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.
