Of Life & Loss by Ground State Photos, on Flickr I have been so impressed over the years at the number of gorgeous abandoned beachfront mansions posted from all over Ontario, just proving that even the most prime, coveted real estate overlooking water is not immune to utter abandonment. I noticed some peculiar Lake Erie roof damage on satellite that left me marking a property for a closer look next time I was in the area. 'Next time' came a full two years later. But it was worth it! Some really specific coincidences of location, geography, & neighbors have all come together perfectly to hide this unexpectedly old, weathering skeleton right in plain sight. The only meddling vandals here have been the numerous coons that have shit up every sink and set of stairs in the house. With a commanding hilltop view of a sweeping Lake Erie vista, it felt dreamy visiting the place. It was a bright summer day with a perfectly dry breeze coming in off the lake, hissing through the overgrown grass all over the property. I couldn't help sitting on the hilltop and risking Erie-shoreline-deer-tick-death staring out at the water.

And, YOU are Baaaacckkkkkkk! Loved the visuals from the first shot on. That was one healthy coon that left his deposit in the sink. Shame this home is left to rot. Looks like such a relaxing place. Good job on these GS.

That view in #3 is so gorgeous! Nice location.
I wouldn't buy pie from that guy, he's probably just trying to molest you...like a mailman or something. |
|
Wow, great find! Photos look great! Good to see it's relatively untouched still
You always find something if you look, it's just not always quite what you were looking for |
|
Does anyone think that dead raccoon would make an interesting hand puppet. Completely unrelated topic but I will be entertaining the elderly and childrens hospitals this holiday season.
Is this reality or my memory getting mileage? Am I staring at the sun or blood vessels in my eyelids |

A lake front villa... that raccoon be living large
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
|
I am sitting here wondering...how far this is from my Villa? Damn...

Me too... or at least clean the place up and live here like the squatters do in Britain.

I'm not counting the place out just yet. Someone has built a brand new garage on-site, so they may still be planning to save parts of the house.

It's crazy how just a uniform blue line across the horizon is so alluring.

Totally untouched! But in a strangely busy spot. And any abandonment on the beach seems to get found and destroyed by night-partying youth. This one luckily escaped.

LOL, only you would come up with that!!!!

Living large indeed; but it makes you wonder how such a valuable piece of property would be left for so long. I haven't experienced the loss of both parents yet, so I don't yet know what it is like to deal with the old homestead.

I hope you didnt take that in the wrong way. It WASNT meant in a derogatory way at all. I meant you were back to doing the kind of photography i have always found that you excel at. Sometimes you venture off in another direction and its ok, but its not what you are good at IMO.

Doesn't it make you realize how good oral hygiene can be eating natural foods without sugar. Haha!

Looks like somebody has that idea. There is a new garage there now. I bet the house gets demolished in the spring.

Absolutely not! I took it exactly the way you meant it.
