I've found a couple cars and a telegraph machine that was really interesting, that's about it. There are some really nice HVACs that I have seen in consolidated schools too.

Cars, massive Nortel pre-VoIP switching gear with corresponding massive copper wiring(scrappers wet dream), automotive manufacturing equipment, various 'vintage' things (value is relative in this case).

I once.. never found anything valuable. Not once, not nowhere. And if I did I wouldn't take it. I'd leave it right there like a good little UrbExer for the next person to stea.. admire and leave in it's location too. Just let it sit and not get it appraised or put it on eBay or anything.

I found a copy of the newspaper announcing the moon landing once. Not sure if it was valuable or not.

In the same location there was also a room stacked full of old B&O railroad items (lanterns, oil cans, tools, etc.). When I went back two years later it was all gone. The city where this place was located owned the place and I called the mayor's office to ask what had become of it. They claimed they didn't know anything about it a all.

Found what (i think) was a meth lab once. And what (might have been) a bunch of meth.

Wasn't active by any means at that point, it looked like it was long since abandoned. Nothing walter white level, just a bunch of plastic bottles with gutted markers jammed through the caps with yellow liquid inside and a lot of batteries that had been ripped open. Everything was covered in thick layers of dust and didn't look like it had been touched recently, so i wasn't too worried.

Meth is valuable, no?

<war story>

Many years ago, we were in an abandoned hospital. It had been shut down for about a year or so. Power was on and there was security on the grounds, but not in the buildings.

The place was pretty much cleaned out. There were auction tags throughout the facility, so much of the valuable contents were apparently sold at auction. Most of what was left in the building was worthless junk.

On one of the floors with patient rooms, we encountered a doublw-locked door. The doorknob was locked and it had a deadbolt lock as well. There were tool marks from a prybar on the door frame indicating that there had been some amateurish attempts made to force the door open with no success.

I don't take locked doors sitting down. So I proposed that we go in the room next to it and try chopping through the drywall. We got in the locked room in a matter of minutes.

Once inside, there were 2 locked cabinets. One was one of those double-walled "flammable material" cabinets and the other was a wall locker type cabinet. I opened both of them by raking the tumblers.

Inside the flammables cabinet was pretty nondescript stuff you would expect to find in such a cabinet like: chloroform, ethyl ether, alcohol, etc.. On the bottom shelf was a bottle marked "Aqueous Picric Acid" (aka trinitrophenol) which when allowed to dry out, becomes a contact explosive. Definitely an interesting find.

The wall locker cabinet was even better. Inside was an assortment Schedule II, III and IV narcotics. Demerol, Morphine, Fentanyl. There were Fentanyl patches and Fentanyl cough drops. Not a really huge supply, but enough to turn a dozen or so people into addicts.

Me, I don't like to get busted with stuff like that unless I have a prescription, but some other people in my exploring party took full advantage of the find.

Jackpot... or is it?
I've found a bottle of 30+ yo picric acid.
After I saw it I gently walked away.
It was sitting outside in an open cabinet at a junior high school that was being demoed.
No fence, no nothing.
Probably should have called the bomb squad...
but then I am a bastard

Yeah, the only place i've urbexed was a "suite" the meth junkies would cook in or rent to their customers. They got busted when they posted what they had for sale on facebook.

There's an old farm along hwy7 near Ottawa that lost it's driveway when the new highway went in. To get there you've got to walk a km or so along a stream through the forest and fields. It seems like when JBS, a fiber optic company went bust they stored all their office stuff in the farmer's barns. It's like the warehouse at the end of Indiana Jones x2. Piles of photocopiers, optic stuff and office junk. But not junk - all new stuff that would have been used if they could have got it out. I'd like to drag a jenny in and plug in a photo copier. Set it up as a renegade free for all printing shop.

I've found some stuff that might be considered 'vintage' or something along those lines, but nothing that I'd say was particularly valuable. Snap a few photos and went along my way. Photography-wise, I like the idea of a shot of something old and valuable laying forgotten somewhere, covered in dust and surrounded by rubble and trash, there's something generically artistic about that.
