I’ve noticed that out of all urban explorers, very few are females. Most of the community is made up of males and finding a girl who enjoys this is rare. Any thoughts on this topic?

I'd say you're not looking in the right area. I agree there are more males into exploration, but there are plenty of girls too. We definitely loose more females as people age.
Everyone has a dark side, mines just a little more illuminated. |

if everyone left their gender blank on the profile as you have done, how are we to know if theyre females or not? or location? I mean..
you need to try harder theres lots of females on UER and theyre actively exploring

Not saying that it is equal but women explorers are well represented on UER. You'll notice that quite a few of the regular contributors on here are female.

Either they're a woman who was wondering about potential safety/sexism issues, or they're a guy looking for a girlfriend.
If it's the first, I've never heard about any issues with female explorers being treated differently. Some people just like to keep the amount of personal information online to a minimum.
If it's the second, you're barking up the wrong tree. You'll have better luck putting "urban explorer" in your Tinder profile instead.

Ummm, card carrying member of the XX crowd here and there are a lot of us. 
Just need to look a bit harder. Maybe we tend to keep a lower profile? I don't know. In my region, its about even male : female explorers. Not all women only like to get their nails done and shop for shoes(although honestly I like that too).

hmmmm, that's an interesting observation. Might be the hard fact that most of us tend to bear more of the child rearing responsibilities - not only the whole incubation angle, but far, far beyond that. I know there are some good dads out there, but I think we tend to invest a lot more time in our families as a rule. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm just speaking for MY life. I'm a single, divorced working mom and dear heaven I'm busy, busy, busy. I love exploring, but finding time amidst all the kiddo activities and work just keeps getting harder and harder.
I will say if I ever did decide to venture out in the crazy pool again (dating), it would be a HUGE plus to find a guy who was into the hobby. Huge.
*why does my own brain want to channel the Office's Michael and say "That's what She said" right now.....

I am part of an urbex group on facebook.Its in europe called urbex en follie...tons of women over there, much higher then here.

Single (in the parenting aspect) dad with full custody of my daughter. Props to you and good vibes! I feel you on that front. Definitely hard to find time to do non-kid friendly activities like exploring.

LOL I laughed at the end of your post! I can definitely relate to what you wrote too and I think crazy pool is being generous! ;)
I'm now at the other end of the spectrum as an empty nester but having been a single parent, working full time and never ending extra curricular activities meaning mom taxi. I've always had that exploring spirit but only discovered it as a hobby recently. Imagine being 45 and trying to tell someone you wanna go explore on the down low! lol The bonus is I can pull off innocent soccer mom quite well and although I'm still a noob, I have yet to be questioned or stopped. Haven't pushed too many boundaries yet either but...time will tell.

As a female, I've had a couple negative experiences, but this has been very rare. So far, (almost) all the people I've met on UER and other similar online forums have been wonderful experiences that have far exceeded any hopes I might have had for the people behind the keyboards.
I've never given this question too much thought personally, probably because I've been the minority in most of my serious hobbies, even more so for the ones that came before: I played underground tournament poker for years in my mid 20's, and before that, I played pool (billiards) and tournament pool. Guess who was the minority then too?
I will say that a female can have some unique advantages in many "guy" hobbies, especially the ones with money involved, and I'm not just referring to the obvious. It's amazing how many guys out there still think that females aren't very good at certain things... like cards or pool for example. More than once, I won against someone with equal or even more skill than me because I was underestimated.
