A small geographical area of Lake Erie shoreline has slowly been transforming into an overgrown rurex dead zone, brought on by waterfront expropriation from a nearby steel giant. Whether they are expanding the buffer zone surrounding their operations or due to some kind of toxicity concern is unknown. This location was discovered by F.O.S. several years ago while scouring satellite imagery to fatten up a list of visits for the day. However, the area was so overgrown upon actual visit that we felt sure that a few cottages remained out of sight, buried further back in the dense summer foliage. I returned for a re-visit recently and did indeed find a few more cottages to photograph. Even with the re-visit though, I was kicking myself looking at satellite imagery later because I missed another one. Sheesh! This location keeps on giving, and it seems likely that the remaining active cottages are probably on some "to-be-acquired" list. This neat area will probably continue to expand until the entire shoreline falls under complete control of the corporations.

Another great series of images, GS! Stuff like this always makes me so sad, the mighty dollar will always overrule people's lives and memories... These houses must've been filled with so much love and life, to see them sitting empty like this is heartbreaking.

Great post, that trip was so much fun and that field of butterflies was surreal. I KNEW those other ones were abandoned!! Love the bras pic and the mushrooms. "Toxicity concerns" um ya...I'll never forget the horrid horrid stink of that shoreline. Some vacation spot, you'd need an oxygen tank on 24-7 to sunbathe under the charcoal dust cloud while being dive bombed by hornets..fun haha

Many natural areas suffer from human activity and the place you described is no exception

Too bad I can only see one picture of your entire set, the one with a spider web. Every other picture is a broken link on my computer, at least.

It's good that someone took up this plot of land, maybe soon there will be a beautiful recreation center.

Absidiaries, you seriously have nothing better to do than post this bullshit on a site like this one?

Agreed...lol It's bad enough getting phone calls offering duct cleaning services and having to sit through 15 second ads before I can listen to The Offspring on Youtube. I come here to get away from that garbage.

I'm not far from there have always meant to check that area out more. Wish I could see the pics! And how ya been GS?

I stupidly had most of my pics prior to this year linked from Flickr, and there was no way I was paying the exorbitant $60CDN annual membership now. They must be out of their minds. I've been really good! I've still been getting out on a routine basis, and creating a giant backlog of things to post. How about you? I can relink most of the photos that were in this post so you can take a look. It's quite a neat area. Very well hidden.
