Found this place on the UER public database. I had no idea there were train tracks on Oahu even though I grew up here. Tracks and cables.
Correct me if I'm wrong, so apparently these are called "derails", used to direct trains to the correct track. Tried to operate this while visiting, it was SUPER hard to turn since it was all old and rusty, but it was still usable. Here's another one of those derails, smaller, but easier to use. (a lot easier to turn) Inside of a passenger train (?????) Abandoned trains

Cool site and pics That is a track switch, which can turn into a derailer if not properly aligned. Many train derailments happen at switch junctions. Derailers are specifically designed to keep equipment from going pass a point by derailing them to prevent more extensive destruction such as a collision with a passenger train. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derail
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. | |
You are literally 200 yards from some great abandonments FYI.

Thanks for the correction! I never rode on a train before, so I don't know the correct terminologies. Luckily, I'm moving to the mainland US soon so I'm looking forward to riding a train for the first time!
