Anyone explore any of these? I've been working on a personal project/white whale to map the whole AT&T Long Lines tower network, with the hope of one day creating a photo database of all of them. It occurred to me that some of y'all might have visited them, and if so, I'd love permission to use your photos--credited or not, as you desire--for the project.

I've seen the PDF map pop up on UER a couple times before.
I feel like it's more along the lines of the desert arrows or crosses. Not secrets, more like a historical scavenger hunt.

Scavenger hunt or no, it's still a cool piece of history. There's nothing in Wisconsin, but I'll probably save the map for when I travel in the future.

Hint: Just about any city that has a nuke pointed at it has a longline somewhere.
Hint 2: Think like a communications engineer. You'll need a high elevation, clear access to the sky, somewhere out of the main hustle and bustle path - but easy enough for maintenance to get to, etc, etc. They really got creative in some cases ;)

Most of the ones I've seen around (Cincinnati, Williamstown, Lawrenceburg, Wilmington) are still in active use - the towers, not the long line horns themselves.

I have some experience with this.
Somewhere around the house, I have better pictures of the interiors of both the frame towers with ground level cabins and one of the concrete silo type towers. I will have to look around on the backup CDs of yesteryear.

Absolutely LOVE these things! We have the same thing in the UK, although the vast majority are in built up enough areas that they're still active for DAB broadcasting and mobile phones, but plenty are still climbable. As long as you keep your distance from the antennas...
